CPaP Newbie!
CPaP Newbie!
Hi everyone, I've been using the CPaP machine for almost a month now, I have had very few days that I can say I've felt better than before the machine but I'm assuming with time will change hopefully. I have had some problems such as the rain out which I've seem to fixed after reading some useful posts here and the one who responded to mine tyvm. But, I have also had other problems such as I am still waking up every couple of hours due to having to move around also that when i go to turn the machine off I have to take a deep breath in before hitting the button or I have trouble breathing afterwards as if I am dependent on the machine. All in all I'm hoping that this therapy helps me and I get to feeling better real soon. If there are any suggestions on the whole still lacking sleep and the dependency on the machine to breath will help tremendously.

Welcome, Tammy C.
Adjusting seems to take awhile for most folks, and everyone's adjustment period is different. Hang in there! I'm a newbie myself -- two weeks on my machine today, and I still haven't ironed out all the mask wrinkles, although I'm determined to make it work!

Do you mean you are having trouble when you move around, because you have trouble with your hose or mask? If that is an issue, there are lots of ideas for hose management, everything from draping it over the headboard to elaborate hose suspension systems. I found that makes my tossing and turning much easier.
Your machine, if the one you listed is correct, will tell you how you are doing with leaks and apnea/hypopnea events. Have you checked to see what your numbers are? You don't have to have the software, it is easily available on the LCD. If you are having leaks, or too many breathing events, you won't feel rested. So that is one place to look. It can take time to feel better, but you want your therapy to be as effective as possible.
It is good you have your equipment listed, but it is easier if you list it as TEXT, as so many of the machines and masks look the same. That way people wanting to help don't have to make the extra clicks to be sure what you are using. Also, you might want to list your pressure in teh extra comments section. It all makes things easier to get the best help.

Re: CPaP Newbie!
TYVM for the responses as for the trouble breathing part I'm referring when i go to take the mask off itself in the morning as soon as i hit the off button it feels as if I am short of breath and having to gasp for air. Its short lived but still scary none the less, and the moving around not sure if its to do with the me being super cautious of the hose or that my arm goes numb and i have to readjust myself to get the feeling back < yes it wakes me up when my arms and fingers go numb weird >. Also I went ahead and changed my profile to show text, you are right it is much easier to show what i have that way. Ty again!

Do you take your mask off before you turn the machine off? I always find it shocking if the machine goes off while I still have the mask on. Your machine has an auto-on-off option. It will turn on automatically if you put the mask on and begin to breathe, and turns off shortly after you pull the mask off. That way you don't have to worry about hitting the button, it takes care of itself.
If patient settings is enabled on your machine, you can hit the left button (menu) when the ramp option screen comes up. This takes you into the menu. When the settings screen shows, hit the left button again to choose to enter. Then hit the down arrow repeatedly until you come to the Smartstart screen. It will tell you whether Smartstart is on or off. If you hit the left button (change), you can change the option. Use the up and down arrows to set it how you want it. (If you have leak alert on, you cannot use Smartstart.) Then choose the right button to exit, and keep hitting the right button till you are back at the ramp screen.
The first time you do this, you might want to write all the settings down before changing anything, in case you want to go back to what you started with. If you need to change leak alert, it is the option just after Smartstart. Also, there is a picture showing these screens, and how to get to them, in your owner's manual.

You might find one of these will make it easier to sleep with the hose.

Re: CPaP Newbie!
I have gotten to where i turn the machine the same time i remove the mask. As for the stats, I am not able to get into anything aside from used hours and mask type. But, ty again for the helpful information I will try to get ahold of the person who set my machine up to see if I can monitor my results.
