Seasonal Allergies and CPAP therapy

Post by Fafner » Mon Apr 27, 2009 9:40 am

I have been on CPAP therapy since August 2008. I always suffered with severe Spring allergies. This is my first Spring (in the Northeast) while under CPAP therapy and I am already noticing a later onset than usual of any symptoms and what symptoms I am experiencing are much milder that in the past. Has anyone else experienced a change in reactions to seasonal allergies after starting CPAP therapy?

I have. I believe others have reported a general improvement in their nasal stuffiness after starting cpap. My improvement is largely due to starting use of Zyrtec-D along with cpap. Now I can breathe through my nose like never before. If I were to speculate, it seems like cpap "inflates" your breathing passages (with filtered air) that seems to have a lasting effect.

I think the white filter in the "M" series intake is doing a good job. My sinuses don't drain as much....my honey feels better from a sinus standpoint....and a good friend has noticed a marked improvement in his allergy/sinus problems after only 2-weeks on the hose.

I've had a sinus infection once a year for that last 4 years; but if I'm going to get one this year, it's running pretty late (knock wood). I have noticed that the pollen doesn't seem to be affecting me nearly as badly, too (and the cars are green right now!).

All my sinus infections are gone since using cpap for last 2 plus years. Even rare colds don't last as long.

My allergies have been a nightmare this year with all of the pollen everywhere. I have been taking my mask off after approx 3 hours (I know, I know, this is bad, bad). My nose is so stopped up, I feel claustrophobic and feel like I am not getting enough air. My allergy meds have been changed and I will begin allergy shots soon. The dust mites give me a fit all year long, the grass and tree pollen kill me in the spring and the ragweed attacks me in the fall when I attempt to rake leaves. Well, I am grateful my hubby does the year work.

i have Allergic rhinitis . my nose stopped up too . Like Georgio mentioned zyrtec works for it . but when i take it , i feel sleepy which is a side effect of Zyrtec . İ will change the medication and use Aerius which is equivalent to zyrtec . If you use a nasal mask and have Allergic rhinitis ,in my opinion it is a must to use this kind of medication

Quercetin is useful for congestion, as is bromelain.

Has the advantage of not doing the sleepies.
