Had nose surgery today

Post by diane83 » Fri Apr 24, 2009 12:46 pm

I had septorhioplasty with turbinate reduction this morning. I had my surgery at 7 am this morning. I arrived around 5:30 am and by 6:30 I was in the OR getting prepped. I freaked out a little when they strapped my arms down and put EKG pad on my chest and stomach. The gave me a sedative and I was out. I was in some pain when I woke up and I have been bleeding a lot since I got home. I have an external splint over my nose that will come off in two weeks. I get in the internal splints off next Friday. How long should I expect the oozing of blood and mucous to last? The gauze under my nose and the dressing holder are bothering me a lot. I have a strong feeling that I won't sleep much tonight. I'm planning on staying up watching movies tonight. Please if anyone has any advice feel free to post.

Hoping that you have someone to look after you for the next week at least.

I'm sure you have been given the post -op instuctions during discharge.

Get well soon.

I think I only needed my "nose diaper" for 2 or 3 days. I know some folks who needed them longer. We're all different.

The first couple nights I slept in my recliner.... more like dozed on and off. I do remember the first few days being kind of miserable, but that didn't really last all that long. Once the internal splints were out it was MUCH better. Take it easy. Don't do a lot. Pamper yourself. Be good and here's hoping you have a speedy recovery. It really is worth it.

I didn't need the gauze under the nose after the first day. Take it easy longer than you think you need to. Mainly, don't bend over or try to pick up anything heavy.

I'm feeling a little bit better today. I'm still oozing and I still need gauze dressings under my nose. My boyfriend was with me yesterday but he will be going to work in awhile. He is a police officer so if there was any emergency he would be able to come home right away.
