Your advice on soaking my swift pieces in vinegar seemed to really work. I wore it last night and it hardly leaked at all. How did you ever figure that one out???
Thx,.....Amy

Hey WAF - it smelled like vinegar so I soaked it in some soap after soaking in the vinegar. It was still a little smelly....but I'm tough...I can take it.

RR told me to soak the barrel and nose piece in a vinegar solution because I was having a lot of trouble with leaks. He said the vinegar would remove any oils or deposits on the plastic and also slightly expand the plastic...he was right.

It's a long story but I work in the manufacture of homefurnishings and mattress. There are plastic parts in areas like drawer glides and such and it's a little secret I learned in repair school. I found my Activa and Swift leaked after awhile so I tried it and voila, it worked!

How long to soak? Full strength vinegar or diluted?

Thanks, my Swift is beginning to be noisy.

If I don't rinse mine enough, it makes me dream about pickles. Boy do I wake up hungry.

Seriously, though, I soak 1/2 H2O, 1/2 Vinegar for about 10-15 minutes. My Ultra Mirage FF seals much better when I do it about every other weekend.

I use a 1/3 vinegar to water and soak overnight. Then dry. The vinegar smell only lasts for a short time and to me is a fresh smell anyway.

Soaking in vinegar

Post by ozij » Tue Aug 30, 2005 12:33 am

Vinegar
RR, I have a real (not rhetorical, not argumentative) question.

On August 2004 in a chat about the Breeze, chat about the Breeze Mei-Mei Stark, Sleep Therapy Product Manager, at Puritan Bennett, was asked about washing the Breeze in vinegar. "Her educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from UC Berkeley, with over 15 years' of experience in engineering and marketing." And here is her answer:

"Vinegar should not be used. In addition, do not use bleach-, chlorine-, or aromatic-based solutions, scented oils, or moisturizing, antibacterial, deodorizing, or fragranced soaps to clean the Nasal Pillows, mask, headgear, padding or air tubing. Use of such substances may cause hardening of your Breeze SleepGear, thereby reducing the life of the product. Wash the nasal airway assembly parts in warm, soapy water as necessary to remove dirt, body oils, cosmetics, etc. Rinse them thoroughly in clean running water and air dry on a clean, absorbent surface. Foam pads may be wiped with a mild soap applied to a moist cloth. "

Your the suggestion, and experience make a lot of sense to me. Would you soak the Breeze pillows in a vinegar/water solution despite those instructions? Elsewhere, I don't remember where, I read the the soaps etc. soften the pillows, would you know which is right?

Thanks,
O.

Well, I have heard repeatedly not to put petrol base products on out interfaces but I have never read anything about vinegar being bad. I guess if you ask enough "experts" you will find anything is bad including human use of the product

However, I have done this soaking in vinegar since day one on my interfaces and I have yet to have to replace a mask. Not doing it and my masks become leaky. So I ask you, would you rather get use oout of the interface for a long time, certainly beyond warranty, or have a leaky mask you don't use around forever.

I have antiques around my house that have parts that I have used the vinegar trick with that are generations old and still doing good. So, I guess you have to choose between who you want to believe.

A parting thouht, I know several imbeciles that are super educated. And some very smart people that have none. Bill Gates and Michael Dell come to mind.

Thanks Rock and Roll - I accept your advice, and trust you far more than I do sales reps on chats - whatever their education.

I don't believe we've met the same imbecils, but believe you me I've met some too...

I'm much more impressed with Mr. Jobes, but Bill did make himself the richest man in the world from scratch with no education so I have to tip my hat to him.
