Bad Power in Hotel: CPAP Needs Servicing: SOLVED

Post by telly » Sun Apr 19, 2009 9:43 pm

Hi Gang,
I just stayed at a Motel 6 and brought my Respironics Bi-Level machine with me. I noticed that during the night, the airstream was much weaker than its normal state and I can pretty much attribute it to bad power in the room.

Now I am getting a warning on the machine: Service Required. I also cannot get the machine to work anymore.

Any idea what's wrong?
Can I get the hotel pay for the repair?

Looks like I'm going without CPAP therapy tonight. Drat!

I have a spare machine at my office (AEIOMed Aura), so looks like I'll be using that until I get my main unit repaired. Unfortunately, I commute to my office and it is not easy to go get my machine for tonight.

Just a warning to others that if you stay at a hotel and the power seems to be not giving your machine the performance you are used to: unplug it immediately.

Hope everyone is well.

Your machine is under warrenty for two years from build date. The odd's of the power causing the failure are null, even less the odd's the motel will buy a bi-pap. The "M"eries seems to have a high share of failures, and the high end units even more. If it uses a Power Brick, it's probably Bricked. Jim

You get it serviced by the same people that sold it to you. They have to send it in to the manufacturer. Jim

Hopefully, you got it from a real dealer like https://www.cpap.com/. If not you may be in for a lesson on internet buying, hope not. It sure pays to use a honest supplier. Jim

If you got it from an authorized dealer, regardless of web or B&M store, they should be able to facilitate repairs. One thing you might do is register the unit with Respironics as if nothing is odd.
http://mseries.respironics.com/register ... ation.aspx is the registration dialogue box for M series machines. It asks no questions about where you bought it or when.

Turns out my machine got water into the blower compartment and it blew the whole thing up. I have no DME, but these guys in Alameda, CA called SomniHealth fixed me right up. http://www.yelp.com/biz/somnihealth-alameda

They got my machine fixed for free and provided me a power cord for my backup unit, which had a bum cord. Great people, if you want a cool DME in the Bay Area.

Telly, what a great solution!!! So glad it worked out for you, and good for you for plugging a GOOD DME! We need more good DME stories on this forum!

From the gal who hates all brick and mortar DME's and will only buy from cpap.com....

Cheers,
B.
