smart card issue

Post by angelo » Fri Apr 17, 2009 7:12 pm

Hello,

I recently got the Encore reader and smart card for my Remstar Pro Series M. The device was working fine, but today it indicated that there was an error reading the smart card. When I reinserted the card into the machine, no matter how I put it in, I got beeps and a picture indicating that I was inserting it wrong. I am thinking maybe my Smart card is defective, but I won't be able to check with my DME until Monday. Anyone else have this kind of issue or thoughts as to what is going on.

Thanks, Angelo

Sometime the contacts can be a little dirty. Use a soft pink eraser and gently clean the metallic contacts on your card and reinsert. Let us know if you have any more problems.

Take a Q-Tip, a little alcohol, and wipe the contacts. Most metals are not stable, so a very thin gold plating is applied. Gold will not rust or corrode, so it should last years. But, it can get dirty, and that is why it should be cleaned. The pencil eraser will remove some of the gold, it is an abrasive, and then the copper, or whatever metal is beneath the gold, will be exposed to the elements and cause more frequent problems.
