I just got back from the Doctor. I went in and they downloaded my machine, printed the results off and the Dr told me im averaging 6.5 hours sleep every night, My leak rates are higher then he likes to see, and is very pleased to see that iv only missed 4 nights out of the 58 or so nights that ive had the machine.
I was going to ask for a Auto machine, so i could take more of the treatment into my hands ( i didnt say that to him) and he basically said they are not any better, and are in fact worse then a constant CPAP machine. So he said he wouldnt write a new prescription for an auto machine. I was also informed that over the last 2 months i have been using the wrong mask. I need to be using the nasal mask or a nasal prong mask. I like My LIBERTY, if i can only control the leaks. So he sent me up to the sleep center and i got a Activa mask and a simple Grey mask, with black head gear, and what looks like a wire tie that the headgear attaches to. He also said if these dont work try the Swift LT mask.
Then i was told to come back in one year.

Did the doctor tell you why he thought you needed a nasal mask? Because of the leaks? Did you talk to him about it at all, and your reasons for having a FF mask to begin with?

Re: 2 Month Doctor Visit
The Dr. said my leaks are okay. I mentioned the dry mouth and he said to fiddle with the humidifier as i have been. And to further reduce the dry mouth i should only be using a nasal mask. He also insisted that a nasal mask is a greater delivery of treatment then a FF. I tried to explain to him that i have always breathed threw my mouth, that the Liberty is a more comfortable mask, be he sent me to the Sleep Center to get the Activa and a F&P nasal mask. I brought up the issue with the very sore bridge and loss of sleep as a result, but was told deal with it and you'll be better off.Julie wrote:Did the doctor tell you why he thought you needed a nasal mask? So for right now im going to stick with the Liberty and call the DME and see about trying a Hybrid mask. I want this to work for me, not for the Dr. I plan to use what works for me. Now if i can only try and get rid of this dry mouth id be on easy street

What is the doc thinking? The Activa is a good mask, but a nasal mask (leaves the mouth uncovered) cannot deliver effective treatment for people who need to breathe through the mouth.Mr. Smiley wrote:I tried to explain to him that i have always breathed threw my mouth, that the Liberty is a more comfortable mask, be he sent me to the Sleep Center to get the Activa and a F&P nasal mask.
Geeze, what a smart doctor... not.Mr. Smiley wrote:I brought up the issue with the very sore bridge and loss of sleep as a result, but was told deal with it and you'll be better off.
You're EXACTLY right, Mr. Smiley.Mr. Smiley wrote:I want this to work for me, not for the Dr. I plan to use what works for me.
