remeron
remeron
I have been taking remeron for a little over a week. I have found it good for getting to sleep with the mask on. I have noticed my numbers are up a bit. Has anyone here taken remeron? If so i would like to hear your experience with remeron. Thank you
Re: remeron
I'm bumping this post up to see if someone will reply. I don't need or take any sleeping aids but wonder about people's experience with them.
I think Remeron is an anti-depressent. I understand that sometimes anti-depressents are prescribed for sleeping problems.

Re: remeron
Taking a anti-depressant for a sleep problem sounds like a poor solution. My wife uses it and many other anti-depressant drugs, if you had seen what those drugs can do, you would never want to take them. Jim

Re: remeron
Like most drugs everyone's response will be different to a particular drug at a particular dosage. I have been taking Remeron (15mg) for about a year. I take it about 2 hours
before I go to bed. It was prescribed for me to treat anxiety and it works very well. I have suffered from panic attacks and extremely intense anxiety for over 2 years, they just started happening and to this day I do not know what triggered them.
Anyway back to the drug, it does calms me down at night and this particular anti-depressant is in the class of selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors so it acts on a different neurotransmitter than the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI's like zoloft, Celexa etc.). Norepinephrine is also known as noradrenaline so at higher doses it can actually wind you up because now there is more for the body to process. This was true for me. I have tried higher doses, 30mg and even splitting the difference 22.5mg but they have a stimulatory effect so 15mg is my threshold. I haven't had a panic attack since starting the drug but my nightime anxiety still prevents me from getting a quality night's sleep. So Remeron alone for me is still not my only regimen, but that can be left for another forum topic.
When I do get to sleep my CPAP numbers are very good while on the medication, my AHI averages around 0.7. Hope this helps and good luck with your therapy.
Cheers

Re: remeron
actually, I am taking 15 mg of sandoz-mirtazapine which is another name for remeron. My family doctor told me it was used for sleep disorders as well as depression.
Re: remeron
Remeron did nothing but make me gain 10 lbs in one month. When my sleep doctor prescribed it I was told Remeron would help my sleep and it would take up to a month to see it's benefits plus that my sleep problems would get better if I would lose some weight( was 125 lbs ).
Stopped the Remeron and it took 10 months to lose 8 of the 10 lbs and cannot get rid of the last 2. Later met a guy who had the same doctor and Remeron experiences. Cancelled my followup doctors visit because was doing better on my own. Would have started getting depressed (from additional weight gain) if continued to use Remeron.
Found out why Remeron is frequently prescribed to older aduIlts who are not depressed to try to stop weight loss if they are losing unhealthy weight.
If Remeron works well for sleep in such a short time that is great but I would not take it every night. Of course the weight gain side effect may not happen to everyone or perhaps weight gain is desired.
