Why I love CPAP.COM

Post by yardbird » Fri Apr 10, 2009 9:47 am

Comparison between cpap.com and a local DME. I will not name the local DME, but they're actually one of the better ones.

I am going to purchase APAP, Heated Humidifier, software package (reader, software, etc).
I'm going to leave out exactly which machine here as I'm not sure if it would have an impact on cpap.com if I specified which machine this is referring to. However this is just (another) illustration of my experience over more than 4 years as a cpap.com customer. I have 50% co-pay for DME in-plan. This local DME is in-plan. Purchases at CPAP.COM are (for me) entirely out-of-pocket with no reimbursement as my insurance company says cpap.com is not an in-plan provider.

Local DME:
Machine: $997.10 billed to insurance company
I pay 50% or $498.05

cpap.com
Machine: $435

Local DME:
Heated humidifier: $256.10
I pay 50% or $128.05

cpap.com:
Heated humidifier: $159.95 as a standalone unit.
HOWEVER it's only $474 for the machine and humidifier if I bundle them. (DME total at this point is $1253.20)

Local DME:
Softare package: $329.99
Insurance will not cover this at all. So I pay full.

cpap.com:
Software package: $149.95
HOWEVER if I get machine, humidifier, software package, the total bundle is $599.95.

Local DME does not bundle. Everything is separate.
At this point Local DME has $1583.19 total... some from insurance company and some from me.
My out-of-pocket if I use the local DME is $956.09

Using cpap.com I save over $356 of my own money.

That's AWESOME!

And if you look at the overall totals... $1583.19 vs $599.95 ... the total savings is $983.24 to SOMEONE... whether it's insurance or me or both.

What's Obama's phone number? I want to show him this.
THIS is why we pay so darn much for health care. Because the entire system is at LEAST this screwed up and in some areas it's even worse.

Thank you, CPAP.com. I love you folks.

It's great of you to do and post those calculations! I knew cpap.com means big savings to me but you really did the math and showed me how much I save with them.

This is valuable information for new cpap users before they spend their money anywhere.

Cpap.com bundles are real money savers!!

Plus at cpaptalk you get lost of help, lots of entertainment, and a place to learn more than the DME is ever likely to pass on to you.
