After educating myself here and elsewhere I set out to get a data capable machine. I wasn't feeling much better and learned all the reasons that I needed the data to evaluate my treatment. So, I call the DME, explain my situation and asked for a "better machine" (I thought playing dumb would help- can't have these silly patients know what they are talking about ) So, he offers me a "loaner" auto machine to "see what is going on".
I am perfectly happy with this solution (for now), at least it's a step in the right direction. And it was clearly all I was going to get out of him at this point. It was a balancing act trying to figure out how long to try with my original machine (so they could see I gave it a fair trial) vs. not waiting too long into the insurance's rental period. If I can figure out my optimal pressure I think I could be satisfied with the bare bones machine (?) I don't know... it just sucks- I don't feel well and I just don't have the wearwithall to hassle around with all this...
DME gave me a "loaner" Auto
hey
it has been my experience to do research before you go to these folks and demand what you know you can get lol
but i have played it dumb before sometimes ppul will divulge more info than you expected but you should definetly try to get and owner (not a loaner lol) is there something holding back from getting it outright (aside form the trial period) or ar eyou just waiting?

Re: DME gave me a "loaner" Auto
What I've learned from all the advice I've read here, is that my options are as follows:
1. Call insurance- ask if they reimburse any online DME- answer is NO
2. Find out from insurance all the DMEs they contract with and shop around- OK, did that- there are about 100! I called 2 and I'm tired (haha)
3. Call your current DME and ask (demand?) what you want- tried that, the result was my previous post
4. Have your doctor write a script for specific machine and try to have script filled by DME- that would be my next step
5. Buy your equipment yourself (pay out-of-pocket)- this is my last resort
