He has to give it to you if you ask for it. You also may be able to get a copy from the DME.
You need to have it because it's good for life.

Den

'Scuse me, Den, whilst I clarify just a little: your original CPAP script is good for life - w/the online DME suppliers. The local DME suppliers require a renewal or new one each year.

The script is part of your medical records and as such you have a legal right to a copy under HIPAA assuming you are in the USA. You have a right to a copy from either your local DME supplier you got your equipment from or from the prescribing doctor.

Update

My mom always told me "It doesn't hurt to ask". So I very politely asked the nurse if I could exchange my machine for an auto pap. I told her it was because I was continueing to lose weight and I thought my pressure could change because of that. She called me back the next day and said my sleep doctor ordered the auto pap and the DME would contact me. So I did pick up my machine yesterday and slept with it last night. They set the pressure at 12-16. I was on 14 with the straight c-pap. I thought the range was a little tight, but I didn't say anything. I am thinking about now buying the software and keeping track of my numbers like I have read some of you do. What software do I need and is there a post where I can find instructions on how to use it?
I was on a rental so there will be no additional charge. I am sorry the DME had to take the hit on this one. Life is not fair for any of us. Last year when I found out I might have OSA I was on a $3000 deductable so I have paid out a lot of money all ready and I felt like I needed a break. This year I switched to a $1000 deductable and I still have to go back to the sleep doctor every six weeks, so I am still paying.

Linda, look on the top of your new xPAP and tell us which one you have - IN TEXT. The avatar you've chosen in your profile is for the Resmed S8 Compact which is NOT an autoPAP, its not even a fully data capable CPAP. Its a lot easier if you use text to list your equipment than the avatars for those who want to respond to your questions about your equipment.
