Activa LT Mask- Query Noise from Vent holes

Post by janette06 » Sun Apr 05, 2009 4:40 pm

For those who have the Activa LT Mask, can you please tell me if you can hear whistling sounds emitting from the air outlet vent holes. If you tap the hard plastic covering it will sometimes just quit whistling for a little while and then it starts up again. It has happened to me several times and has kept me from falling asleep with the mask. It doesn’t do it all the time, which makes it a quirky kind of mask. I have been putting the mask under the blankets and that seems to help. However, the previous Resmed mask, called the Active Cell, never had this problem because the vent holes in the silicone cap were much larger. Last night I slept with the Activa and there was not a peep out of it. Other nights you’d hear high pitched noises that just won’t quit until the mask is removed. Does it have anything to do with water condensation? I have reported problem to my Resmed supplier who is looking it it with the Resmed representative. They do not think it was ever a problem anyone has reported to them. For now, I am also using a backup Mirage Ultra mask which due to the outlet vent's very unique design does not have this problem. However, the cushions are better on the Activa LT mask.

Snap the new LT cushion in the old frame and you will have the perfect mask. I don't like the new dial frame and the new clasps, but the new cushions are okay.

My Active LT used to do that and I found that it was caused by condensation forming inside the vent holes. It was always the worst when I turned on warmup 15-30 minutes before I went to bed. I ended up having to turn my humidifier way down because of rainout, so I haven't had that problem lately.
