Does a 420E have problems with a Swift or full face mask?

Post by bigheadr » Wed Aug 24, 2005 6:02 pm

My new sleep doctor at Evergreen said that he wouldn't prescribe an APAP if I use a Swift or a full face mask. I think that this is ridiculous since I see alot of people on this bulletin that have APAPs and use Swifts and full face mask. I have decided to try a third sleep clinic, Virginia Mason and hopefully, I get a sleep doctor this time that knows about 420E since I want to switch from a 420S to a 420E. Is there any problems running a Swift or full face mask with a 420E?

Not only am I successfully using a 420E APAP with a Swift (along with a few others here IIRC), but Puritan Bennet explicitly says the 420E works with nasal pillow systems! (Anyone have the link to that at hand?)

does the doc give any REAL data and FACTS as to why this wouldn't work?
Other than the kickback from the competing CPAP manufacturers?

sorry I am cranky tonight..... after a day of paying the price for a childhood of sunshine in the pre-sunscreen days. With some major carving on me by a dermatologist.

Let us know how Virginia Mason does. Is that clinic near or at the Kirkland Virginia Mason clinic?

The 420E is fine for use with Swift or any other pillow system. It is also fine for use with a full-face mask.

Snork1, I finally got a sleep doctor that will let me have what I wanted without going through alot of hoops. I saw Dr. DePaso, the head of the Virginia Mason Sleep Disorder Center and he understood that I was the type of patient that wants to be involved with my treatment and he would give me what I wanted so he wrote up a prescription for the 420E and they just happen to have a RT from Optioncare there and she faxed it to the Everett branch that I was using. Since I am going out of town for while, I should have the 420E when I return. Also, the Optioncare RT corrected a problem with the new Ultra Mirage FF that I started using last night to help with my snoring and puffing. My wife is finally told me that she didn't hear me last night snore or puff so the FF worked although the AHI is higher than my Swift so I will wait to see if the 420E improves my numbers. Maybe I will get a mouthguard to see if it improves the snoring and puffing with the Swift which I like better than the FF mask.
