Does anyone use nasal pillows who has slotted nares?

Post by wasColette » Fri Mar 27, 2009 6:55 pm

I notice a lot of people here use nasal pillows and I'd like to try them out, but I have slotted nares. Do you think that matters?

According to the sizing mechanism for sizing masks on cpap.com... Yes.

I originally checked that I had slotted nares (They're certainly not "round") and the nasal pillow masks were left off. I changed my answer and it included them. I don't have "round, round" nares like I've seen in some people, but I don't have thin slits either. I bought the insurance to be sure...

SnuggleHose - Got the 8 foot and cut it down to 6, used the rest for mask hoses.
Memory Foam Pillow - Cut my own out of my Tempur-pedic pillow. (works great!)
Hose Mgmt - Velcro Tie Strap

How is the mask working out for you? Is it comfortable?

More slotted than not, myself. And Swift LT works for me, about 99.8 % of the time anyway. Like SharkBait says, I'd use cpap.com and buy the insurance just in case I had to send it back.

I had the same thing with the sizing. But I didn't buy nasal pillow mask and opted for the Aclaim 2. I really wanted to try the Mirage Swift LT, did you find that the pillows work well?

AWESOME! I tape my mouth at night because I have started mouth breathing. I think the idea of taping one's mouth is absurd. To be able to successfully use this mask makes the absurd an easy trade-off...

Yes, the pillows work very well.

I could not get the pillows on the hybrid to work for me. Many have, I could not (I gave it a couple of hours in different sessions trying different sizes and slot positioning). Something about that dual wall construction of the Swift LT seems to make the difference for me.

I use nasal pillows and they come in different sizes and are soft to shape to your nose.

I have recently been trying out a Liberty and I have slotted on one side and more round on the other. Not just different shaped but also going in different directions.
