travel without humidifier - 1st time

Post by elader » Wed Mar 25, 2009 7:07 am

Yuck. Even with the full face mask, I had two lousy hotel nights without the humidifier. I had to try it once, but from now on, I am back to traveling with the full kit. Woke up completely dry, throat raw. Live and learn I guess.

I just tried 4 nights without the humidifier here at home.

That all worked fine and I was not dry, but having said that I still prefer to sleep with the humidifier going.

The area I'm traveling to in April has the same humidity level as here and higher... so I figure I will be fine to leave the humidifier unit at home. It will certainly simplify travel bit... and I like to travel light and simple.

Guess I got lucky. I was in Seattle & Vancouver 2 mos. ago and while I had my humidifier, I didn't get around to getting any distilled water. I thought I'd try a night w/out it. I had no problems, but it may be that I'm so used to living in dry conditions that Seattle/Vancouver was sooo moist that it didn't bother me.

Traveling without the humidifier would be easier but I won't travel without it. There are nights at home that I can go without the humidifier but the very next night I might need it. Weather changes affect me a lot so I would hate to be a long way from home and realize I needed it.

I basic travel every third day. I am a firemen and I work a 24 hours shift. I have taken my humidifier with me every day. I do have an extra humidifier chamber I keep at the firehouse so I don't have to carry one back and forth and possibly get water in the pump.
I never thought about not using the humidifer since I get so dry already.

Never use the humidifier makes no difference for me

One advantage of my cheap-azz unit is the humifier is integrated into the CPAP, so I have to take it. Just empty the water chamber and either bring distilled water or buy some at the destination.

Jason, actually, you can take the humidifier off that unit. It's just a pain in the ass to do it.

I was freaked out by the bloody noses I got once when I was just using passover. I'm now a fan of humidity, though I have to keep it very low or I find it annoyingly hot.

Cheers,
B.

I've tried twice to sleep without the humidifier. Can't stand it, my nose and sinuses feel like they are burning and on fire! I actually don't need alot of humidity just enough to keep the linings moist and cool. I agree and can't stand the heat tho. I've tried the aussie heated hose and it just heats up the air TOO much for my taste.

I'm planning on traveling with my APAP on my Harley this summer a few times, and it will be packed up with all my gear! Humidifier included!

I find hotel rooms are frequently really dry so I always have to bring my humidifier or I risk getting a bloody nose and dry throat

I tried that once several years ago, Elader ... went for a week long cruise and didn't think I'd need humidification. Boy, was I wrong! I always take the heated humidifier now.
