I went to my DME to get a new mask, and he gave me a liberty full face, and it said stuff like "not for customer use" and "do not sell". so when i went back because i had a scvere leakage problem, i saw another liberty, and found that mine was nice and yellow even though i had had it for 1 week. sooooo, is my mask old and a demo that had just been sitting? should i ask for a new one? I notice that already i am having problems with the nose thingys coming out during the night, and i didn't have that problem before.
Also, i somehow broke the elbow clamp, so i have to go in there anyway. Will the DME think I am just picky if I ask for a NEW mask instead of an obviuosly yellow one?
I had the quattro before and returned it after a week and it was not yellow in any way . i do clean my mask with water and soap or a clorox wipe which is what my DME said to do to avoid the yellowing. But this one I brought home that way.......
Ok, so what do i do? And what about the leaky nose, is that an age thing with the mask also? I am supposed to be able to get a new mask every month according to my "need", so that would count I would think. I just hate being picky and bugging the DME again, though he said to call and stop in anytime....
I hate asking for help. Is it reasonable to want a "clear" mask?
thanks for your help!!

First, I'd insist on a new mask. A "demo" is probably not what you paid for or your insurance. I'd want one I see come out of the new package. Yours is yellow because of either sunlight, oils from face of other users, improper cleaning or other such factors. Improper care and cleaning can cause this to happen to any mask.
Second, the elbow clamp on earlier versions of the mask tended to break easily. I had broke several. Finally went directly to the maker. They acknowledge the problem, and had a stronger clip that is put on newer masks. They send me a couple free. Since that time I've never had a problem with a Liberty mask I've purchased.
Just my thoughts and experience.

This has been my experience, as well. I had two elbows break (the outer ring, right at the top) and the headgear attachement lugs of two frames. I called ResMed, they said these were known issues and the designs had been changed. I was told that my DME probably was still selling old stock, but they sent me replacements immediately.zebrajeb wrote:First, I'd insist on a new mask. Hello, as the others have said take it back. You should of gotten the books, CD and the 3 sizes of pillows. If the pillows are starting to get hard yes that would cause them to lose the seal. Don't feel bad about asking they are working for you not the other way.

Wow. I wouldn't feel bad about asking for a new one. That mask was provided to them as a demo, not for resale, and they didn't even have to pay the manufacturer for it. Almost criminal!

What they all said, PLUS....probably not a good idea to use Clorox wipes to clean the mask.

Thanks for the info. I finally called the DME and they sort of were trying to find out if the mask was under warranty. I told them I could get a new mask every month anyway, and that this one said not for patient use, etc. She finally came back on and said they didn't have one but they would order one. I also should have asked if they could order both sizes because i am not convinced the large is the right size.
Anyway, i also told them about the elbow issue and she said they would see if they have the parts tomorrow. AFter looking more closely at my mask, it is really really yellow and obviuos, and I know it was the same when I brought it home. I just felt like I could not ask for that I guess, you guys give me the courage to be my best!! Sorry, you should have heard my voice inside saying that, it was pretty cool.
So then I called RESMED who said the same thing, they have a warranty, etc, and they have fixed the elbow problem and so just have my DME order me a new one, and that I shouldn't have to be looking online to figure out is my mask is old or not.....she was really kind and understanding.
So, as for the clorox wipes, it could be any anti bacterail, but that is what the DME said seems to work the best, and doesn't make the mask yellow. He is a pap user for 10 years, so at least I can take his advice. He has been pretty nice, but he is pretty busy it seems, and I feel like when I go in there someone else is always waiting behind me....oh well, that is the nature of the beast.
So thanks for your replies, i think that i will get a new clean clear mask!!! yeah!!! and I wll get some sleep again. The past few nights have been bad and i only had 4 hours with the mask on......does the cream for nursing lanolin stuff really work to keep the pillows in the nose?
Anyway, I am relieved again. I so want this to help, and so does my family. I am so damn tired all the time and fell asleep in a lecture yesterday and had to sleep in my car before driving home from school. yikes!!
thanks again
