Eye problems from Mask

Post by rejoicem56 » Tue Mar 17, 2009 10:16 am

Hi I have been using my cpap about 6 months now. I have been having more and more eye issues each morning. Either I have sticky eyes or blurry eyes everyday. Now the blurry eyes may last for 2-4 hours. The siticky just needs a cloth. Is this normal for a Quattro ff mask. I figure it is leaking into my eyes but I have it tightned alot so I don't know what else to do. Thanks in advance, Melinda

You might want to try an eye mask.

You are probably correct. Those are the symptoms of leaking around the eyes.

Two suggestions: Try loosening the top strap instead of tightening. I know it sounds "backwards", but compressing the seal too much will make it leak, too. If that doesn't work, try loosening the lower straps a bit. (The mask will naturally "see-saw" on your cheekbones, so letting the bottom pivot out will give you more adjustment play at the top.)

If neither of those help, you may just have the wrong mask for your face. Letting it continue to leak into your eyes is not a good choice.

Yep, sounds like the mask is leaking around your eyes, and that is NOT good! I had the same issue with the Quattro mask—either so tight that it made the bridge of my nose sore, or if loosened I had eye leaks, not matter how many ways I adjusted the relative upper/lower tension and the forehead support angle. Finally switched back to the Ultra Mirage Full Face mask, and I have no eye leaks or sore bridge of nose with it. Everyone's has a differently shaped face, so the mask that is perfect for some just doesn't work well for others. Good luck!
