One Night without CPAP

Post by yorkiemum01 » Sat Mar 14, 2009 6:41 pm

Have to share, as I wouldnt believe it if i hadnt experienced it personally.

Somehow, last night, (according to my data in hour 2), my mask came off,
and I slept the night without my cpap. Since I pull 10 hr shifts at work, and 2 hours
commuting, by friday I am exhausted and I never woke to realize the mask was off.

Early this morning I woke feeling like I had a AWFUL hangover this morning, not to mention the
whole day I've been tired. Hope that doesnt happen again.

If that happened to me, I might consider turning the "leak alert" feature to "on."

Thanks for sharing. These are the stories that keep me 100% compliant.

I can attest to this. We lost power here for 2.5 days. I thought, "what's the big deal, I managed for years without the CPAP," as if it is some kind of luxury. After the first night of no power and no CPAP, not to mention a night of almost NO sleep, you can be sure I bought a generator. My next purchase is a backup battery or car jumper with an inverter.

Sleeping without the mask is sometimes very tempting. I have never (NEVER) done it at night. However I have tried to take daytime naps without it. I find it weird and I am frequently woken feeling short of breath.

The body adjusts. Before CPAP I was used to not having it, so I didnt feel "terrible" when I awoke. Now my body is used to CPAP. I didn't use it one night (lazy) and when I awoke I felt like my head had been beaten all night with a bag of oranges. I'm not lazy anymore.

I almost went last night without CPAP....I just couldn't get comfortable and get to sleep with it last night. I suspect it was because I had taken mask apart for deep cleaning, and wash of headgear.

Either that or spring is around the corner, and the headgear is making me sweat under it.

Basically, that's what I did...I cranked the A/C up and eventually went off to sleep. Though it was like 45 outside (and dropped below freezing over night). I'd hate to see what I have to do in the summer.

Wonder if a fan in the bedroom would be a good or bad idea.... or maybe its time to try a different mask....

The Dreamer.

Wear a hard mask with sharp edges.
