Encore Pro

Post by hecate » Sun Mar 15, 2009 1:18 am

Hi,

I'm having problems installing Encore Pro v 1.5 on windows XP. It gets to the part where it installs the "database engine" and then either freezes or I get the message "MSDEInstaller Failed in execution." Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Thanks
Liz

I don't have Encore Pro and I have Windows Vista on my computer but, I have heard people on the forum who have the same as you, suggest that if you have Windows XP service pack3 on your machine it might be the problem. You can go to add/remove programs and take off service pack 3.

I hope someone more "in the know" on this will see this thread!

I don't have Encore Pro, but as a "geek" who does computer stuff a lot (although much more on the hardware / design side), general suggestions:

1) Open up Control-Panel / Add & Remove Software, and make sure that EncorePro isn't listed. If it is, remove it so you can do a clean install.
2) Same thing in C:\Program Files\Respironics - delete any sub-dirs there. If it says somethings locked or in-use, reboot and try again.

Reboot & try to re-install.

If that still doesn't work, then re-do 1 & 2, and now also do:

3) 3rd place to go cleanup - Windows Registry. First, make a back-up, just in case (Windows \ Accessories \ System Tools \ System Restore - make a new restore point)
Then, Go to Start Menu, Run and type in "regedit" - this will open up the Windows Register editor. Do a search on Respironics or EncorePro - if you find any entries, delete them (you're likely to find 1-2 folders w/ the name, and maybe a few other entries).

Usual disclaimers on you should do a full backup before you start (I'm not just saying this - as someone who's lost a hard disk, and corrupt files by hitting the reset button when I thought the machine was stuck, but it was writing a critical file, I've learned that backups are a very good thing).

Not sure but I think Version 1.5 may be to old to work on XP. For some reason I think it took Version 1.6 or later.

Edited: OK i'm wrong again! One of these days I will learn better.

Hi Liz.

How's everything over in "Poke-a-feller"?

Which machine are you using? Your profile shows that you use an older Legacy model Plus machine.....which isn't data-capable. Do you have a newer/different one? Did you get a new computer and are you re-installing this software?
There can be quite a number is reasons why this message is coming up, so it would help if you could give us some more details. EP 1.5 is an older version, but I'm still using 1.4.99 on one of my computers with XP, so that's not necessarily an issue. Do you have Administrator rights to everything? (If your user profile in the "Control Panel" says "Computer Administrator" you should have those rights)
Are you running any anti-virus software? You may have to shut it off while you install the software.
