Sleep or REM debt

Post by Rosebud » Sat Mar 14, 2009 6:57 am

Okay, so I'm starting to sleep better now that I have the right machine, thanks to the expert advice of rested gal. Now, I'm intrested in when I can expect to feel more rested after those "better sleeps". I've seen some talk of sleep debt or sometimes called REM debt, and I'm just wondering...is this a debt that we can ever hope to pay in full, or is it more like the "national debt" that will never be paid but that we've all gotten used to?

Thanks, but I can't take credit for that Rosie! Slinky and many others said the same thing (because of the amount of data one machine can give, over the other)... "get the Elite II instead of the Escape."

By the way, as I write this, your profile is still listing the Escape as your machine. You might want to update the equipment part of your profile.

"Sleep debt" is the phrase you're thinking of. It's not an "hour for hour" payback thing, thank goodness! Sleep debt is usually taken care of with just a few nights of sufficient sleep.

Of course healing to the body can take a long time, but "sleep debt" itself from sleep deprivation should be out of the way very soon.

The other phrase you probably read about is "REM rebound", also taken care of in a night or two.

The "other" other phrase -- national debt -- whew!!!!

Rosebud, I don't know your situation or how many hours of this good sleep you are getting each night, just want to throw out there that this is not a time to cut them short. How long it takes you to "catch up" can be affected by if you are getting adequate hours for maintenance, and it wouldn't hurt to get a little extra sleep for a bit.

I remember someone on here posting they were still sleepy, and when all was told, although they were sleeping better, their schedule still only allowed them maybe 5 hours a night. At that rate, they couldn't count on ever getting over being sleepy.

Hopefully your schedule allows for enough hours of sleep, and you will soon be more awake during the daytime.
