Separate humidifer for CPAP machine? Newbie ??

Post by muirwoodsue » Tue Mar 10, 2009 9:39 am

Hi Everyone,
I am meeting with my sleep doctor today after doing both the initial sleep study and then a titration sleep study. I have no idea what my results were for either test, so I am a bit anxious to find out. I'm bringing my hubby with me for a 2nd set of ears.

I would like to get the ResMed S8 Elite II machine. Since I have to pay for it out of my pocket, I want a good one and from what I have been reading here the past few days, it sounds like it. I keep hearing Fully data capable!!

The question I have is the humidifier. I live in Michigan and I know I need the humidification. Do I get one that is the same brand as the ResMed or are there other ones I should look at.

I still have no idea about my mask. During the study, they put on the nasal pillow. They would tell me to keep my mouth closed! HA!
I kept talking in my sleep and opening my mouth. Finally I got a chin strap. I really need to try some different kinds out. Plus I love to sleep on my side.

I'll keep you posted on this journey. I am SO looking forward to feeling rested and energized. (I know it wont' happen right away!) but a girl can dream.

I read posts like these and I think, "This person is going to do it!!!". It's all about attitude and you have the right one.

I think with my sinuses even if I lived in the swamps of Louisiana I'd still want/need a humidifier. That's a lot of air passing through and it really needs some moisture added...

SnuggleHose - Got the 8 foot and cut it down to 6, used the rest for mask hoses.
Memory Foam Pillow - Cut my own out of my Tempur-pedic pillow. (works great!)

Also, Sue, it sounds like you're going to need a full face mask unless you are open to the idea of taping... Keep your mouth closed while you're asleep is easier said than done. I'm still playing around with the Mirage Liberty that is a hybrid of over the mouth and their awesome (I think) dual walled nasal pillows.

There's some questions with it's durability, but so far I really like the mask.

If you want to side sleep with a full face mask, I think you almost have to get a CPAP pillow. I went to Big Lots and bought a memory foam pillow and cut a couple of big square chunks off of each side. It works GREAT!

Hi There---You are so smart to get informed ahead of time--you go girl!! Yes--you do want the ResMed S8 Elite II machine--that is the one that I have and it is GREAT!!! It will last you a long time and it is data capable too. If I were you --I would DEF. get a humidifier! it is a MUST anywhere you live. I have the RESMED Humidaire 4 which snaps right onto your ResMed S8 Elite II machine. It looks good and it becomes a part of the machine. It takes up very little extra room and it comes apart for easy traveling. Good luck with your appointment!!
Carrie
