CPAP fell on floor..

Post by Nokomis » Sun Mar 08, 2009 1:48 pm

I did not sleep well last night for some reason, was tossing and turning. I accidently turned and the hose knocked the CPAP on the floor. Should I be concerned about it? How do I know that the program is still set?

I am a newbie, I just got my CPAP 2 weeks ago.

I've knocked mine on the floor twice and it's OK. Just make sure water didn't spill out of the humidifier into the machine. My machine sits on a glass topped table so I got some adhesive backed velcro dots and put the smooth side on the bottom of my machine and the rough side on the table top. Haven't knocked it off since. Good luck with your treatment.

Ouch!

Make sure to remove anything between the XPAP and the night stand. If your machine comes with lo\ittle rubber feed make sure that they are clean and directly contact the night stand. Avoid polish.

I did the same thing a couple weeks back. Ouch...

My machine was fine, but that doesn't mean that every CPAP that hits the deck will be undamaged. When it's running it will display the pressure it is blowing. You should be able to tell that it's blowing air.

I have a velcro tie strap over my head screwed into the baseboard of the window, but I like the velcro idea as well. I have some 3M industrial strength velcro that I might try. I'm pretty sure the hose will break before the bond on the velcro would release...

SnuggleHose - Got the 8 foot and cut it down to 6, used the rest for mask hoses.
Memory Foam Pillow - Cut my own out of my Tempur-pedic pillow. (works great!)

I did the EXACT same thing about week #2 on cpap. I was totally stressed out. My RT had said that it would ruin the unit. I picked it up...all the water had spilled out....(into the unit? I had no idea) but when I turned it back on, it was fine. Seemed fine ever since.

Last night I yanked out my hose from the machine. It was a close call, because I almost took the machine off of the nightstand too! I was wearing an Oximeter. I can see when it happened because my heart rate jumped. I also lost the measurement of the SPO2 level because I was moving my finger around in the probe while I put the hose back into the machine.

Try using some anti-slip material used to keep tablecloths from slipping:

You can get it in different colors. I have seen this stuff in Walmart as well.

I used to have mine on the nightstand too --kept pulling it off in my sleep. I moved it to just above the floor up on a 3 1/2 inch computer monitor riser that sits on the floor in between my bed and my nightstand. No more worries. The rubber feet on the machine sticks to the plastic monitor riser. You can get these at Office Max. or Staples. It works like a dream!!

Let me put it this way - I'm glad I have the TANK version of the Respironics Auto. In my first year of use, it must have hit the floor AT LEAST 5 times! Still going strong, three years later. lol. No wait - it's my four year cpap-i-versary this month! Wow, hard to believe.
Machine: M-Series Auto
Mask: Headrest
No humidifier
On the hose since 2005.

Hi Collegegirl, yes I love my old tank too....I just rather take something smaller and a bit more portable on trips.

You are right these good ol respironic tanks are built well. I even had it fall off my shoulder in the case on it's butt end and it still worked fine...the short little cable that attaches to unit from the humidifier plate thinga my job was slightly bent but still works great.
