My ex-wife and I were sitting in some lawn chairs watching my son play soccer yesterday, and we were far enough away from "people" that we could safely discuss my despicably embarrassing disease (medical condition really but disease sounds better...)and the hideous treatment that I'm doing for it. That's right. I have OSA and I use a CPAP.
We got to talking about mouth taping (now THAT I really wouldn't discuss around other people...) and she asked me if the CPAP had an alarm that would let me know if the power went off (battery backed up of course). This reminded me of my UPS's. Now from what I understand I don't want to run my equipment off of a regular old PC UPS, but it gave me the idea to just plug an old UPS into the power without anything running off of it so that if/when the power goes out, it will start beeping and wake me up.
So if you got an old UPS sitting around you might consider plugging it in next to your bed, especially if you're mouth taping...

Re: "Loss of Power" Alarm
I think they sell alarms specifically for that purpose. They go off if the power goes off. Some of the power outage flashlight deals out there will do it too.
Re: "Loss of Power" Alarm
Using a quality UPS to hook up your XPAP to isn't a BAD idea. Don't power the HH off it unless it's Sine Wave, but it protects the XPAP and also provides a Power Off alarm. Don't count on it to replace the electricty for more than a few minutes, as they don't have the storage to last long. Jim

From my understanding, with your brand of equipment (Respironics), it shouldn't be a problem for you. The ResMeds need pure sine wave power for the humidifier (I think). There was a recent post by Bill Bolton about it.....but that was for the other "R" equipment.SharkBait wrote:My ex-wife and I were sitting in some lawn chairs watching my son play soccer yesterday, and we were far enough away from "people" that we could safely discuss my despicably embarrassing disease (medical condition really but disease sounds better...)and the hideous treatment that I'm doing for it. I've only had one event in the last four years where the power actually went out when I was sleeping......and I woke up fairly quickly from the sensation that there was no air movement into my face. I have some UPS devices, but don't plug my CPAP into one.....just a good surge protector.

Re: "Loss of Power" Alarm
I think I'll research that and actually use one to power the machine if it's safe. Either way, I'm sure the beeping of the UPS will wake me up. I don't know if the cpap stopping would wake me or not. I'veI got the integrated unit so I power both with the same power supply.Wulfman wrote:From my understanding, with your brand of equipment (Respironics), it shouldn't be a problem for you.
