Backup xpap machines
Backup xpap machines
How many users of xpap's have exact duplicate, or otherwise, systems in case of emergency? I'm thinking I need to buy a backup system. Do you also have a humidifier backup, nasal interface, cords, power plugs, etc.

Re: Backup xpap machines
I got the Resmed S8 Compact from my insurance, with all the stuff (hose, mask, humidifier, etc.) then found a brand new S8 Elite II with matching humidifier, FFM, hose, etc. for $200. I couldn't pass it up. Now when I travel I take my Compact because it's the cheaper machine.

Re: Backup xpap machines
I didn't like the Remstar "Classic Tanks" enough to buy the company, but I did buy a new Remstar APAP from our host, and a used one off Yahoo Auction, then there's my original Classic Pro 2, I started with. And enough supplies for a couple of years. All I need is a extra bottle of electricty or a healthy squirrel to run my generator wheel. Jim I was a Boy Scout, I learned the motto.

Re: Backup xpap machines
I have an extra Remstar Pro and Plus and just replaced my Pro that died with a Plus I found with 2.6 hours total time. Not having a provider (used E-Bay to find the ones I have) if it is to be it is up to me. When my Pro died at 12,712 hours at 4 AM I went to the basement and grabbed the two spares, programmed them for my current setting and when with the Plus to save the Pro that I never used the card in because of not software or reader and then slept until about 7 AM.

Wife keeps asking me why we need a house full of xPAP gear

Re: Backup xpap machines
When I was started on xPAP therapy I was provided w/a Resmed S8 Elite w/EPR. It didn't take me too long to search for and find a lightly used Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage. Both came complete w/integrated humidifier, the Humidaire 3i. When I was switched to a bi-level I insisted on the Resmed VPAP Auto (came out in January 2008, then in July 2008 they came out w/the Resmed VPAP Auto 25). *sigh* The Humidiaire 3is are compatable w/all 3 of my Resmeds. I recently sold my Elite. *sigh* But I will NOT part w/my Vantage. No way I could afford such new Resmed bi-level backups so I searched long and hard to find a good lightly used Respironics pre-M Series BiPAP Auto w/Bi-Flex complete. I didn't want an M Series.
My ole Respironics Simplicity simple nasal cushion has been faithful much longer than the six months I had to wait before getting a new insurance provided mask and headgear. I'm currently using my second Simplicity and have the original in reserve plus a second 6 month insurance provided Simplicity still in the packaging as another reserve. I'm currently using my third hose in 28 months and have two more in reserve. Filters I replace more often than recommended due to having forced air heat and having had a furnace add-on woodburner for 20 years. Those extras I buy out of pocket due to the frequency that I change them.
I haven't gotten an extra water tank for my Humidaire 3is simply because I do have the two 3is but am thinking maybe I should get one since I've been eligible for a couple thru the 28 months I've been on xPAP that I haven't bothered to get. Just in case.
My husband has us set up w/a gas powered generator should we lose power w/a second smaller portable generator in reserve should it be needed.
I do have some "back up" masks that I could TRY to use should something happen to all 3 of my Simplicitys. They are masks I tried that didn't really work out for me that my supplier just let me keep before I found my Simplicity which works so well for me. I should try to sell them or donate them to some organization that supplies the needy rather than having them cluttering and taking up space in my XAP supply closet.
