Strange, but as I continue my therapy and get more and more comfortable with it all, my mouth is starting to open in my sleep. At first I was pretty conscious of it and I think with everything being new I just wasn't slipping "out" and was keeping my mouth clinched. But I'm a long time allergy sufferer and a notorious mouth breather so I was kind of surprised I was able to do so. First it was like every 3rd night or so and I got a chin strap and it alleviated the problem. But the last couple of nights I keep waking up from mouth breathing even with the chin strap on. If I tighten it enough and move it up to my lower lip, it seems to be effective. But if this keeps up, I'm going to try tape...

I would be interested too. I mostly do well with a nasal pillow, but notice I am having some mouth leaking. I am allergic to tape glues, and haven't been able to come up with a substitute I won't react too.

I would certainly welcome something more comfortable than chinstraps and less problematical than taping - mark down one more for testing.

riverdreamer,

I am allergic to most tape adhesives, also. The adhesive they used for my last echo stress test left red welts that took 2 weeks to heal. I have found that 3M Micropore tape in white does not give me any reaction. I use the 2 in that seals well all around my mouth and holds all night. To protect my lips I use a thich layer of 100% pure lanolin.

Hope this works for you until we find something better.

Bev,
I'll check out the micro-pore tape. Yes, I had the same type of reaction to electrodes for echo testing. Not attractive! Maybe the lanolin will help too. It is such a balancing act, to find what helps without causing more problems. However, the APAP is making such a difference, I am determined to keep it going.

Thanks!!!!!

Try the tape on you belly first. If you don't react, it should be safe for your face. I was very nervous about trying it, but I had to do something because the air leaking out of my mouth kept waking me up.
