I'm a city boy, so you'll have to excuse me... what's a salt machine?

She probably means a water softener.

I like the Nasopure bottles better too. I met the Dr. last summer and she is really nice. She said the Neilmed guy had tried to buy her out, but she
held out.
I think the Nasopure bottles take less pressure to use, so it is easier on my sinuses.

The shape of the bottle makes it so easy and you don't have to tip your head. It took about 2 nights for me to "perfect" the use of this bottle.

I'm using it every evening about a hour before bed (most nights). I am congestion free at night and the congestion I suffered from every morning is gone as well

Everyone has their own choice of method but I have found the Nasopure to be the best for me. If I get in late or am very tired, I just use the Saline Spray.

I got my neti a few years back when my wife saw it used on Oprah. I've never used it on a daily basis, only when my nose seems kinda stuffy. Works pretty well for that. I've never had much success with it when I've got a bad headcold, doesn't relieve congestion for me.

I didn't see anyone mention this but my system had Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) added as well. I'm guessing this is to adjust the pH of the water, I do believe that the closer the solutions pH is to your body the less irritating, goes hand in had with the salt level. Also, the water temp should be as close to your body temp as possible, I dribble some over my wrist to test - like with a baby bottle.

My package has 700mg of baking soda and 2300mg of salt, for 4 oz. of water, which is recommended for one nostril. Its also suggested to start at half strengh and work up to full strength.

So, those of you still feeling irritation with salt only, try adding some baking soda.

edit: Found this site that speaks of buffering solution amoung other things.
