My Personal Quest for the Perfect Pillow

Post by SleepGuy » Wed Feb 18, 2009 9:53 pm

By now regulars on the forum know that I am a Complete Nut Job--something my kids discovered a long while back.

Among other pursuits during the last few years especially I have been on a personal quest for the Perfect Pillow. I've ordered and experimented with a few dozen pillows--traditional, fancy, all of the cpap-designed units, buckwheat hull, cervical, "as seen on TV" pillows, and I almost ordered some Bucky pillows but didn't quite get there.

Long story short is that I have come up with my own way of making a pillow. It's a buckwheat hull pillow with a unique desing, features, versatility, and functionality. But so far I'm the only one who has used it.

I would really like to find just one or two people who have lots of experience with pillows who would be willing to take it for a test drive for me (e.g. free sample). I am looking for fellow PillowNutCases who would be in a good position to offer me an honest evaluation, suggestions, and feedback (good, bad, or otherwise).

Due to the cost I will not be able to provide many free units so I intend to be highly selective (please don't get your feelings hurt if you're not selected). If you think you'd be in a good position to lend me a hand, send me an email (sleepguy@comcast.net). Friends and family are an ok resource to me as well but I'm looking for someone with lots of pillow experience and plenty of opinions.

Being able to supply your own buckwheat hulls would to a long way towards saving me shipping costs etc.

Bret, the Bucky Baxter lumbar pillow is my all-time favorite (yes, a lumbar pillow, but the shape's right, and I use it as a neck pillow). Last I checked, it was available through Amazon, and I have a review of it listed there (I'm "meb" there). I can't say I've trialed a lot of pillow styles, but I'll be very interested in reading about how yours works out. Thanks (again) for involving us in your product research.

I thought I had the perfect cpap pillow after
I sliced/diced/slashed a memory foam pillow.

....but I have discovered something....

OSA is contagious .....

it must be....because....after sleeping on it....
it is loosing it's short and long term memory....
just like I was.
It can't remember where it was when I roll back and forth...

.....so, I continue my quest for the perfect cpap pillow.

I just bought the Sleepap Pillow for $52 and I really like it. It's cozy and the perfect shape. HTH

I too have the SleePAP pillow. It is a great pillow, but not 'perfect'. My biggest issue with it is that the stuffing has to be adjusted after use. It is a great shape and density IMO. Now if they could just keep the stuffing from redistributing itself each night...

I am a big fan of the Chillow. It can be placed over a regular pillow to keep the user's face cool. It is not a replacement for a pillow, but a pretty cool accessory.

Carbonman, my hubby had the same problem with his memory foam pillow (we followed your slice/dice method but with the fancy carving knife) and he did OK for awhile but kept "losing" it too when he turned over during the night. Thinking he'd do better if we could find a bigger pillow to start with before we started cutting, we found one at Costco which was about 5" longer(think it was labeled Standard/Queen,20"x26"). He tried it out the first night as is, and it works great with no modifications. I think the memory foam is really "memory"and keeps the mask indented wherever it hits and he can turn over more freely without running out of pillow. It seems like a better quality. It's called Novaform by Sleep Innovations made with Nutratemp Memory Foam, if you don't have a Costco you might find it online. Hope this info helps. It's amazing that some of the little things we go through we think it's only happening to us alone. Take care, Dori
