ResMed: Will reading/writing the smart card reset it?

Post by awh » Wed Feb 18, 2009 7:11 pm

My doctor gave me a smart card to take home with my ResMed Autoset II and told me to put the card in before my next visit and bring it so he can have a look at the data.

Being a curious type myself, I would like to download the data and look at it beforehand. Will that screw up/erase/reset the data or in any way make it so the doctor can't see it? The doctor has to see the data once/month for insurance reasons...

No, downloading the card between submissions to your sleep doctor will NOT erase any data. You have to deliberately tell it to Erase Data, either via the xPAP itself or specifically in the software.

However, be sure to do a download to your own software the day you are submitting the card to your doctor as HIS software may be set to Erase Data. For one thing, one should always Erase Data with a change in therapy settings.

No, it won't erase the data, it just adds to what is there. However, if you want to get detailed data, not just summary, make sure you do it every 3 days, since the new machines/cards apparently only hold 3 days of detailed data before going to summary. The detailed data does stay in the software on the pc. When we go to hubby's followup at the end of the month, I'm taking the full month of detailed reports with me, since hubby's numbers keep going up and down....wondering if he needs an APAP.

Luckily, I have a doctor and RT who think it is great we're monitoring at home also.

p.47 of the Clinicians Manual:

Resetting the Flow Generator
Resetting Compliance
It is recommended that you reset compliance data before changing therapy
mode, so that the efficacy data is more meaningful.
To zero the patient hour counter and erase the saved compliance data, navigate
to the ERASE DATA setting in the VPAP Auto menus and press the Left key
(erase). It will ask ARE YOU SURE? If you select YES, then the compliance data
will be erased and the counter reset.
The USED HOURS counter cannot be reset.

I checked it after my DME supplier told me that changing therapy settings w/o erasing previous data could mess up my data at the new settings.
