remerol/mirtazapim medication for OSA

Post by sleepy gal » Mon Aug 15, 2005 7:56 am

Just read an article from the Ivanhoe medical news site that neurologists at UCLA have discovered that the anti-depressant remerol seems to reduce OSA incidents by 50%!!!!!

If this is so, and can perhaps reduce OSA even more, what a wonderful thing that would be!

Sorry, I am tech. challenged so can't give you a link etc.

The site is webdoctor@ ivanhoe.com

Sleepy gal - I saw the same thing on our local TV station. They said it was not available except to patients that are being treated for depression. I think all cpap'ers are depressed to some degree. I wonder what the DME's would have to say about this finding

I believe you are talking about remeron, not remerol, although I haven t read article. One major side affect-extreme weight gain. I have used it, but before I had my machine.

Me again. Just read article and it is indeed mirtazapine or remeron. It was prescribed for depression but mainly a sleep aid in my case.

Remerol is in fact Remeron, with just a few tweaks. I'd be real careful on this one. The pharmacutical companies will do anything to increase profits.
If you're overweight and have a huge neck, how in the world can a pill stop your neck from collapsing your throat? That'd be like taking a pill to hold your tummy in:) I can't wait to see the TV commercial on this one. "Some people may experience dizziness, headaches, liver failure, loss of limbs, and seizures. Don't take if you are pregnant, were pregnancy, may become pregnanct, or know somebody who is pregnant."
