Remstarplus/ question,

Post by airhead » Thu Dec 30, 2004 10:14 am

I see that this "antique" has the "Jacks" to track sleep. How would a non-medical person go about getting the wires and whatever else is needed, and is a prescription needed?

Airhead,

I didn't think the Remstar Plus had a slot for a smart card. If it does you can get the card, card reader, and software for about $200. That's about two times what the machine is worth. If you care to spend the money you can get the "stuff" at cpap.com... no prescription needed.

I still don't think the "Plus" has that capability though.

I'm like Wader....I don't think the RemStar Plus machine you have will track or show any sleep events, airhead. The most info you can ever hope to get from a straight pressure cpap machine (as far as I know) would be number of hours it's been used. Or maybe some ultra expensive oximeter info if a ResMed straight cpap (not the brand you have, airhead) can use the ResLink add-on...dunno.

I could be way wrong, but I do believe only autopaps and some bipaps can actually "track" events that happen during sleep.

must be pretty ordinary. ...I was told that it CAN be used to monitor sleep. I will check the book sometime next year. . It does have a round plug type input. I think there called a "s video/audio port "on the back of a tv set. I will let you know. Thanks and Happy New Year.

Well, it can monitor one thing - how many hours you use it. But to "monitor sleep" in the way you probably want to do it (seeing how many apneas, hypopneas, etc. you had during the night), I don't think the Remstar Plus can do that. But I could be wrong.

Hi Aihead,
You are right!!! I also have a Remstart Plus with C-flex I bought 5 months ago. I just checked the manual. It says that the "communication connector" on the back is "for clinical use with the Encore Pro Data Management Software or an IE 950 approved device. Connect the communication cable here."

Is Encore pro the software that measures all the data? Where does the smart-card fit in this picture?
Hmmm. Any input is appreciated.

Sorry to burst anybody's bubble but I just checked the Respironics website and the data storage contents for the remstar plus is "usage sessions > 4hrs"... nothing else. I assume the clinical monitoring aspect they refer to is monitoring compliance only.

Remstar/plus and "dialup internet access...

I think we drive old cars too! .I think that ALL the members and most of the guests here @ cpaptalk are sincere, caring people, except for me. LOL. But now that "we" are chatting about a machine very few here have, or sell for a living... lets see the response. Im sure the "gang" will do their best, cause they know that our next, or in my case, my 2nd machine, will be the best available. Happy New Year!! Asti in the humidifier with ice instead of heat.... I just called Respironics Customer supply. They said that the communication conector in the back of the Remstar Plus is for machine diagnostics only!!! It does not have a smart card and therefore can't be used with the Encore Pro software.
Oh well.

RemStar jack

Post by WillSucceed » Sat Jan 01, 2005 11:25 am

I spoke with a tech at Respironics. He told me that the small round jack on the back of the RemStar Plus is a PS2 jack, same as the one on the back of your computer that you plug your keyboard into if you have a non-USB keyboard. He said that the jack is there for "future use" but is, as of now, now, not doing anything.

The RemStar Plus does not contain software to track/report treatment like the Auto does.
