2nd. Night-Not so good...

Post by Sleepy Boy » Thu Feb 12, 2009 7:38 am

I could not--get my mask to quit leaking last night. I finally took it off. I had it too tight then too loose-I was getting the "face farts" and frustration. Any tips on adjusting it? Or does this just happen some nights? Thanks...

Well ya know it is all in the adjusting. The mask leaks at first used to drive me up a wall. Some nights when I first started therapy I used to tell my husband that "I fought the mask and the mask won last night". But you know, I had less and less of those nights as I got more experienced with the interfaces. Now I seldom have a problem with leaks unless my mask seal is not really clean.
I also think the little leaks are compensated for, but I do not like the sound, so I try to avoid them if possible. The right mask, the right fit and keep it clean, should help. Oh and as a mask ages I find that it will tend to leak more even if it is clean. The seals are not meant to last for years.

Good luck.

Karen

Thanks Karen. I've only had it two days. The first night I did good with it. I think I will "practice up" with it during the day, instead of waiting for bed time...Blue Ridge Mtns? Really beautiful, been down the Parkway a few times...

Make sure your face is clean and not greasy, that's probably the best tip I'd have for that mask. But lately I've been having a lot of problems with mine leaking and nothing I do seems to help. I probably need a new cushion but decided to try a different mask altogether.

I tried somthing interesting the last couple nights with the same mask. I sleep on my right side so the mask is pushed to the left side of my face when I lay on my pillow. So what I did was adjust it so it leaked ever so slightly on the right side of my face. Then, as I snuggled in to get comfortable, it kind of corrected itself.

I've also discovered that a clean face and mask make a big difference. After trying all kinds of things (baby shampoo, babywipes) I've found Dr. Bronners liquid castille soap to give the best resluts. I used it daily on face and mask.

I get minor leaks every night. I usually adjust the mask and go back to sleep. I wonder how many times I have leaks but just sleep through them. I'm sure it happens. I try not to worry about the leaks. That would just keep me from getting back to sleep.
