Sleeping?

Post by Sleepy Boy » Mon Feb 09, 2009 5:13 pm

I've been on cpap since July. I did real good at first. Now. I'm fighting with my equipment, I cant seem to get to sleep with my "pillows' on. I tried my Resp.Comfort Select, no luck there either. I'm a mouth breather, I tried taping, dental strips, cant seem to get used to it. I feel like I'm suffocating. If I take mask off I sleep all night, but tired the next day from no therapy. I take Ambien CR & 3mg. Melatonin, sometimes sleep 2-3 hours, then wake up and have to take the mask off. Would a FF mask be any better for me? Or is this a phase? I dont post on here a lot, but read almost everyday. All of you are a lot more help then you realize. I've learned so many things on here from just reading. Thanks, Larry.

Hmmm I seem to be having a lot of the same problems...same equipment. I don't usually used sleeping pills (although I have them) as I've heard people with apnea shouldn't use them: then again my sleep dr gave me a prescription...which I haven't used.
I'm thinking right now things are worse because of the winter air. I think I have a winter allergy that pretty much blocks up my nose and makes me tired, but doesn't make me sneeze or anything that you would normally associate with allergies. Oh oh...there goes another straw for me to grasp at. ???

Stop the junk fixes and get a full face mask. I like the Hybrid and many others report that the Ultra Mirage Full Face CPAP Mask is excellent.

Good luck,

I have the hybrid too and it's great. If you breath from your nose, you breath from your nose-that's a main reason that full face masks are made. It's comfortable too! Don't sleep ANY nights without therapy-unless you like Russian Roulette.

CFJ,

You took a little hiatus from the forum. Sounds like you are making some excellent progress.

Congratulations,
Rooster

Sleepy Boy, I was a mouth gluer, too.
It sucks.
It's a mess.
It's claustrophobic.
It's a pain in the patute to get ready for bed everynight.

I use an UM ffm now.
I fill my HH, put on my mask and head for the abyss.

Just remember, once you go full, you'll never go back.

I don't think it's about luck, I think it's about YOU making it work for YOU.

Thanks Rooster & Carbonman. I just called the sleep lab where I had my studies done. The girl that did mine told me to call Wright & Fillipps where I got my cpap Equipt. and tell them to send me a Ultra Mirage Quattro. I just hope I can get used to wearing it. She told me "not" to ever tape my mouth at night. Your right, it "sucks" and I hate it..Thanks for your help. I expect I'll be needing advice when I get it..Larry....

Hi SleepyBoy.

I have used the Quattro FF for a little more than a month now. I too am a mouth breather especially while sleeping flat on my back. Now I notice with this mask I actually breathe through my nose. This whole CPAP thing has me amazed. I wish I had told my Dr about my excessive snoring a long time ago. I find the full mask quite comfortable. AltoughI am working to reduce a bit of puffiness under my eyes in the A.M.

Too much humidity can also cause stuffiness......and possibly contribute to the feeling of suffocation. If that's the case, try turning your humidifier down or off.

I never could picture myself in a nasal-type mask......I've been a life-long mouth-breather......until I started CPAP therapy. Using cold water in my humidifier and no heat (year round) keeps my nasal passages open and breathing well.
