I got my new equipment at last/stuck hose

Post by nanuke » Fri Feb 06, 2009 4:43 pm

After all the horror stories about DME's I went in spoiling for a fight.

What I found was a very pleasant, charming and, dare I say, pretty darn cute young lady who was extremely thorough, and was very pleased that I was so well informed.

Fortunately, my wife's insurance plan (Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield) will cover the whole thing

Additionally, they seem to be very thorough about keeping you informed as to when your next visit to the Dr. should be, and when the equipment is due for renewal. My former DME's were more of a 'Slam, Bam..." you get the idea.

I want to thank everyone on this terrific site for all the info that I've gathered over the past two weeks. Y'all are the best.

Now for my problem. The connector that hooks up with the clip of the Ultra Mirage ff is totally stuck
in the hose. Any suggestions as to how I can remove it w/o damaging the hose?

Thanks again everybody.

SLEEP WELL

Sorry - No answer. Had a similar issue with our vacuum cleaner and a different item. Gotta ask though - How?

Try pushing it out with a broom stick or a garden hose. Might be easier to just use another hose, if you have one.

Sorry I didn't mention it- yes that is what I did with my Vacuum hose(broomstick). I was concerned of the cpap hose getting damaged and you breathing some bits of plastic so didn't mention it.

You might try putting in the freezer for an hour or so. Should make the thermoplastic elastomer used in the hoses to contract.

I'd be pretty cautious about the freezer. Most plastic materials become more brittle as their temperature falls.

Try just rolling the outside of the hose between your palms. After a while the material will warm up due to the heat transfer from your hands, and the constant moving may break the sticktion (very technical term used only by highly trained engineers with years of experience)

Good luck

Just two basic questions......

Why do you feel the need to remove it? (The hose from the connector)

Did the DME give you the "Plus" model you have in your profile? (The plus is not data-capable.)

Den
(5) REMstar Autos w/C-Flex & (6) REMstar Pro 2 CPAPs w/C-Flex - Pressure Setting = 14 cm.
"Passover" Humidification - ResMed Ultra Mirage FF - Encore Pro w/Card Reader & MyEncore software - Chiroflow pillow

Thanks all for your suggestions. I got it out though with careful use of a semi-dull table knife. iT was the hose that they gave me at the sleep study and it was a real cheapie.

Sure, I could've used another hose, but I just put on a Snuggle Hose cover on it so that I can use more heat with the humidifier, and I don't want to go through that PIA again.

Den - I wanted to try out the Quattro ff mask they supplied me with... and thanks for the equipment info. I've updated my equipment profile.
