The sensation is like you're breathing as deep as you can but it's never a satisfying breath and only occasionally will you be able to take a deep breath that is satisfying
Now that you've described it, I seem to recall something along those lines when I first started CPAP therapy. However, I think it would be a good idea to contact your doctor (like the others have suggested). It may be that you're using/filling your lungs differently or you're "shallow breathing" while you sleep, but it still never hurts to get another (medical) opinion.

Thank you all for your advice. I just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this while starting CPAP therapy. I will be calling the doctor tomorrow. Hopefully they can see me right away.

I think that stress makes me feel like it's an effort to take a deep breath. Sometimes I have to consciously make myself breath and take a deep breath....I find myself holding my breath a lot during day...especially when sedentary. In my case, exercise, weight loss, stress reduction are all tied together and seems to restore my normal breathing.

But dificulty breathing is something you should have checked out.

Just a little update. My doctor saw me right away. Turns out I had a virus which he mentioned had been going around. He gave me an RX, and told me to get some mucinex and nasal saline and I should recover in a few weeks. Good to know He recommended to keep using cpap

Hi Lissa,

I am having breathing difficulties during the day after using CPAP for the first time. it feels like my airways are partially blocked and it is harder to take a breath. i did not use the machine last night because im too scared.

did your daytime breathing difficulties go away in the end? please let me know so i can have some peace of mind

Eric
