Sore nose and sinus update
Last night, my sinuses were killing me....I eventually found drugs to deal with it and eventually went off to sleep. I also decided to try pursleep finally. I tried Deep.
I woke up feeling tired and not wanting to get out of bed....and I'm back to fighting to stay away at work, commuting to and from, etc.
I had called this morning to make an appointment to see my doctor, and there was a 2:30 cancellation...so I went to see him.
Right away he saw something, so I didn't really have to explain why I was there.....
He saw the sore on the bridge of my nose....he said it looks infected too....likely a staph infection, he's worried that it might be MRSA which is common around here. He prescribed some antibiotics and said if I get a super intense headache and my eyes swell up, to go to the ER.
He also said to not use my mask for a couple of weeks. I'm not sure about the last part....
If only the mask I won in CPAPauction on Monday would show up.... Guess by first class mail it should be here today or tomorrow.

Did the doc say not to use cpap for 2 weeks or not to put pressure on that nose sore for 2 weeks?
If you have a bad sinus infection, you need to clarify with your doc about using cpap. There is the possibility a bad infection can get deeper or go into your ears.

Another thing of note, when I was at the doctor's office....they checked my blood pressure (like the always do).....she said it was normal at 120/60
That's amazing...because to me...'normal' is numbers higher than that....what somewhere between what they call prehypertension and stage 1 hypertension. I forget now if its systolic or diastolic that was in the prehypertension range and the other being stage 1.

Re: Sore nose and sinus update
Last night was rough....I seemed to be getting up every hour to go to the bathroom. I slept-in a bit, but I don't feel any more awake than I did when I went to sleep.
I don't know how I'm going to survive now for the next two weeks.

Re: Sore nose and sinus update
I went 2 weeks without CPAP because I had an infection where even an hour of CPAP would dry out my nose an throat to the point of starting crack the lining of my nose and throat. The irritation was bad enough it would wake me.
It probably wasn't a bad time for it to happen. I had some benefit banked from the 3 months of CPAP, but I wasn't that far away from whatever tolerance I had built up from functioning for years without CPAP. Towards the end of the two weeks, whatever benefit I had banked was starting to fade.
Anyway sleeping in a sitting position is suppose to help, but I didn't try it. Any furniture where I wouldn't just slump over on my side isn't comfortable enough to sleep on.
I was considering getting some of the shaped pillows or foam and build myself a little sitting sleep nest for backup.

Re: Sore nose and sinus update
Well, I got the mask I bought on CPAPAuction....and I so very much want to try it.
Meanwhile...I continue to browse for other masks that I might want to try....maybe I shouldn't be feeding my online auction addiction....

Re: Sore nose and sinus update
TheDreamer, online auctions are great but they can lead to financial ruin and loss of respect from family. I know I got hooked and now my husband is trying to bail me out as well as pay our other bills.

Re: Sore nose and sinus update
I have ended the wait, even though it hasn't been 2 weeks.
I had intended to resume CPAP Saturday night, except I picked up my new iPhone Saturday afternoon...and starting playing with it....suddenly it was 1am, and I hadn't done things necessary to use CPAP again.
There was yet more iPhone play on Sunday, among other things...and suddenly it was 11pm...but I decided to go for it. Though I came close to giving up.
I had gotten ResMed Mirage Vista off of CPAPauction, which avoids where the sore was and seemed it should fit more nose better. But, I had tons of trouble trying to figure out how the headstraps should go, and then getting them adjusted so that the mask wouldn't leak and not be tight, etc. It was close to midnight when I think I got something that worked. Though the mask was still kind of leaky all night.
Looks like no side/stomach sleeping with this mask....so I'm probably back to mash searching. But, at least I got some sleep using the mask....several chunks, with the longest bit of a little over 4 hours. I'll try not to stay up so late tonight, to give me some time to fiddle some more with the mask.
Tomorrow I have the doctor appointment...and I'm supposed to pop into the DME after it to see about exchanging the ProfileLite mask.

Re: Sore nose and sinus update
If you are going to use CPAP, please use a smidgen of Vasoline in each nostril every morning to fight the drying tendency of therapy. If your sinuses dry out, they are more likely to crack and allow infection to take hold. You definitely don't want to go there.

Re: Sore nose and sinus update
Dreamer, you might want to try some Ayr Gel or Ayr Saline Spray in each nostril rather than Vaseline. I know from my years of working with Doctors that there is some chemical in Vaseline that should not be inhaled.

Re: Sore nose and sinus update
Thanks, DoriC, it was my husband's doctor (he's on Coumadin) and then my own doctor who recommended the Vaseline. He has been using it since '86 without a problem, but if I am going to err, I'd rather it be on the side of caution.DoriC wrote:Dreamer, you might want to try some Ayr Gel or Ayr Saline Spray in each nostril rather than Vaseline. time for nasal prongs
in the long run they seem to be the most reliable

Re: Sore nose and sinus update
Maybe I needed Mirage Vista in Standard instead of Deep. The cpap.com sizing tool probably doesn't know that I have a flat nose, so while there is depth at the bridge of my nose...its different at the top of the Vista mask.
Meanwhile, the DME has talked me into giving Nasal Pillow masks a try again. It's an F&P Opus (there's no 360 on the packaging....)
I was sure that I had seen and gotten Ayr Gel, but I can't find it....I did get Saline Spray....
Guess I'll put it on my list and see if I remember next time...
