Mask question

Post by Bets » Thu Jan 22, 2009 3:16 pm

OK, I was fitted with a Comfort Gel FF mask on Dec. 22nd. I had some struggles with leaks along the way, and was only averaging about 3 hours a night with the mask on, until the last 2 days - no leaks, great sleep, 6+ hours with CPAP, good stuff. But last week I had called my RT to tell her I wanted to try another mask(s), and she called today and wants to come fit some other ones. But now the comfort gel seems to be working well - and I'm a little scared to mess with a good thing! My first thought it to stick with the mask that is working for me now - but part of me wonders if there is a better mask for me out there - but I don't want to go back to adjusting to a new mask now that the CG seems to be doing the trick. Anyone else find their first mask to be the right one after a few weeks of adjusting?

Explore - I would be trying a nasal mask or nasal pillows. Tell her you want to try the Aeiomed Headrest and watch her face, lol. But don't turn down trying another. Everyone needs a spare mask or two.

If your DME is like mine they want to get you something they can make more money on.

definitely get another
even for just a backup in case this one breaks
and who knows, you may find that one mask that lets you get a full 8 hours sleep comfortably.

Thanks for the reply! I really need a full-face mask - bad allergies and chronic congestion - and I know there are other full face masks out there. I think I am just scared to give up what has (for the past 2 nights at least) turned out to be good after all! But then there may be something that works even better! I did find out that my titration was done with a comfort gel full face mask (didn't know that till I got the full report). Anyway, I'll probably have her come bring some more masks - it can't hurt, right?

I should have added that the 6 hours has been lights out to alarm clock - I had 2 late nights and only had 6 hours or a little more to sleep - the mask gave me no problems. After 4 weeks of leaks!

THATS GREAT,
even if you just get another comfortgel ffm, at least youll have a backup.
Ive been slowly getting backup supplies, so Im not SOL if something breaks.
Ive realized that sleeping without my machine is not an option, I dont want to go back to my 'zombie days'.

Question. Are you limited in your ability to access help/mask change?
If not, I would go with what seems to be working....as soon as it no longer helps, call for help to change it!

If it ain't broke.....
