Need help with Encore Pro Installation

Post by Guest » Fri Jan 16, 2009 12:13 am

I've used a cpap for over two years now and really value the feedback I get from my Encore Pro data. Unfortunately, my card reader stopped working about a month ago. While waiting for my new card reader to arrive, I transferred my Encore Pro software to another computer in my home (my son is taking the newer one). When we received the new card reader, we set it up and confirmed that it works properly. However, when I go into Encore Pro to download the cpap data, Encore Pro indicates that it is "connecting to database", then displays the error message "unable to connect to specified database". I click on "OK" in the error message box and the Database Server screen comes up where you can select the database server name. "Local" is my only choice so I leave that alone. I'm stuck here - I really don't know what else to do to get Encore Pro to work. Can anyone tell me what to do next? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the responses. My machine is a Respironics APAP (the "tank"). My Encore Pro is version 1.6.22. The Windows Operating System is Microsoft XP with ServicePack2. The card reader is a Mako Infineer DT3500.

I haven't figured out how to check the registry key value yet but I'm working on it.

Thanks!

that EP version is fine with XP and the tank - just it is always good to check since we get ppl who think any version of EP is fine with any OS and any xpap

I had the same problem and turned out I had a file missing. I actully had to uninstall it all a couple of times with my dads help and then reinstall. And remember you have to have the card in the reader before you plug it into the USB. But try reinstalling all the software and see if that helps.

when you say "I transferred.." you mean that you copied the folder[ from one pc to the another or you mean that you Installed the software it in the new pc?

If you just copied the folder that is not going to work because it doesn't install the SQLServer Database

if you installed it then the installation was not successful and it probably didn't install the Database.... do some search in the forum... I'm sure that I saw the installations instructions in an old post here.

Sounds as if you may have another program which uses (or did use) SQL database on that pc. Ask son.

Is that the exact error message? If not, Post the exact error message you are getting.

Also go to Preferences > Database Server and post exactly what is listed there.

If you run "regedit" you will pull up the registry viewer and then you can navigate to the right key. Be careful because you can damage your Windows installation. Try changing the ServerID value to be X\ENCOREPRO where X is your computer name. So if your computer name is GUMBY, then the value would be GUMBY\ENCOREPRO.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to all of you who have been kind enough to post advice. I'm way out of my league with the Encore Pro software problems so I had my son read all the posts and he has been trying to get it to work. As part of his process, he uninstalled EncorePro and then started to install it again. Now we're stuck here. When he clicks install, he gets this error message - "setup was unable to create Encore Pro database".

We'll appreciate and try any advice anyone has to offer. Thanks so much.

I thought I posted a reply for those questions but I guess it didn't actually get submitted. Really sorry about that.

I have a Remstar Auto (the "tank"), Encore Pro Version 1.61, Microsoft Windows XP, and Service Pack 2.

Thanks again.

Looks like you have your work cutout for you. Lots of posts on here about the re-install of Encore Pro. If I remember correctly (iirc) the problem is that the database is not removed. Not sure what the fix is but I do know MS has a removal tool on their website just for probs like this.

Do NOT upgrade to SP3 before you get this working.

Found this -
viewtopic/t37939/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36 ... ft#p321884

I know there are posts on here regarding this exact problem. I have NOT searched for these posts myself.

I have NOT used this utility and only point out that it does exist -

When you are working on your computer and installing a new program, the installation suddenly fails. Now you are left with a partly installed program. You try to install the program again, but you are unsuccessful. Or, maybe you have problems trying to remove an old program because the installation files are corrupted.

Do not worry. Windows Installer CleanUp Utility might be able to help. You can use the utility to remove installation information for programs that were installed by using Windows Installer. Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.

Download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
We have updated Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. This version of Windows Installer CleanUp Utility works correctly in all 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows. If you have an earlier version installed on your computer, we recommend that you download and install this latest version.
