I got my CPAP machine 3 weeks ago today. Had some initial mask-tweaking to do, but I seem to have gotten the problems ironed out. I'm still very much in the adjustment period - some nights are better than others. Had a couple of pity party nights with throwing the mask across the room, but most nights I get several hours of therapy - a couple of nights I've had perfect full night's sleep. And then last night, I was watching tv and fell asleep (in bed) - woke up a couple of hours later and instead of getting up, washing my face, putting on the mask, etc, I just turned off the tv and the lights and went back to sleep. And this morning I felt like I hadn't been to sleep at all - exhausted, head-achy, dry-mouthed - multiple snooze button hits - still dragging butt now. I will not do that again - one night of NO therapy has convinced me of this.
Can't wait to go to bed tonight!!
I'm a believer!
Re: I'm a believer!
My first visit with the R/T, when he dropped off the machine, I asked him "should I wear this when I take a nap?" After all, weekend naps were more often than not necessary.
So, first time I had felt the need for a nap, it was after a very short night, not so much due to the machine, but from getting to bed late and having to get up early. I used the machine, and it was great. 45 minutes later, I was refreshed and ready to go.
Funny thing, though, I didn't feel the need for naps any more. I might still be a little drowsy in the afternoon, but there wasn't a problem working through it any more.
Then last week, due to an early rising, and a planned late night, I had planned some time for a Saturday afternoon nap. I read for a bit and then didn't put on the mask, and I never really fell asleep all that well. When I had to get up, there was no overall feeling of having rested.
So, chalk me up as a believer too. The only times I've slept without a mask, in my 3+ months of therapy, were a couple of weekends in my first month when I was camping, and this one nap where I didn't get any rest.

Re: I'm a believer!
I can't fall asleep without the mask on now. I lay there for hours, and finally give up, and either go home and get on the hose, or go out to the other room where my machine is. (New-ish BF, we can't sleep together because of his tiny little bed, but I still try.)
However, that said, I did fall asleep at a dull movie the other day. Jerked awake nearly immediately. I think it's just the bed sleeping that my brain won't allow. I can fall asleep on the couch without the mask. But I don't stay there for long. Something wakes me up, either me or the BF.
It's really annoying, let me tell you.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

I've had the same experience!!!! Decided not to take it with me -- mainly because I still didn't believe that quack I was seeing and didn't think I had SA.....so went to mom's for 3 nights. On the second day, I knew I'd made a mistake and that quack was right!!!
