I just learned of Snoredog's passing as I have been away from the board for a long time. I am shocked and saddened. This man was pivotal in helping me be successfull with my cpap therapy and I will forever be indebted to him. Thank you so much to his daughters for letting us know so we wouldn't have to wonder what ever happened to him. He was such an active member here and helped many with his sage and salty advice and opinions.

I remember reading several times where Snoredog told of his own father's early passing and his presence at that moment. It is a shame that he was destined to repeat an early passing. I hope his daughters, whom he was so proud of, take good care of their own health now. I hope they have been tested for apnea and are monitoring other cardiac factors such as cholesterol so that they can live a long time and outwit this insidious disease that took their father much too soon.

Thank you, John. I hope to meet you in person in the next world.

Jen

You have a good memory, Jen. I was looking for something the other day and came across that post. (see viewtopic/t37373/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=25 ... s+#p221619) It really struck me. He said he was 16 when his 51-year-old father died from a heart attack. Snoredog was 52, and his youngest is 17. Too much alike. Too tragic. Too soon. I know our forum will continue its good work and that it will flourish, but not having him around is like throwing what we used to call a "concoction" together for supper.... "*taste*... yeah, tastes pretty good, but.... *taste*.... just can't figure it out.... *taste*.... it's missing something...." I'd say cayenne pepper or tabasco in Snoredog's case.

Well said Marsha!!! So true.....

Jen -- it's been too long!!! I've missed your posts and comments - you are so correct about Snorepup and SnoreDDS and their awareness now of possible health issues in the future. They're both young enough to be able to make a difference and I hope they both will do just that.....

don't be such a stranger!!

Goose,

You are so correct that they are young enought that if they monitor their health they should be able to prevent this from happening to them. My own case is a perfect example. I thought I was doomed to develop all of my mothers ailments for a long time. Even contemplated not having children because of it. When I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, suddenly everything made so much sense. My high blood pressure, which required medication, is now low normal and many of the other early symptoms I was suffering are gone too. Hopefully I will avoid the diabetes, cancer and heart trouble if I continue to work toward improving my health in all areas. My mom, however, cannot be convinced to be tested even though I am certain this is the root cause of all of her problems. Some folks are just stubborn.

And Goose, I don't want or intend to be a stranger. But. . . I have a six month old baby and he is a very demanding boss!

I hate to get off topic in this special thread, but what is this about SDB and refusing to be diagnosed??!! My wife is just like your mom and over the Christmas holidays I added my 30-year old nephew to the list of "stubbornly refusing diagnosis". He explained to us how he feel asleep on the sofa one night, woke up and felt like he had not been breathing, and then fell, cut his forehead and knocked himself out for some minutes. I asked if he snores and his wife said his snoring is horrible. He refused to consider that he might have sleep apnea.

I don't understand it.

Aromatherapy may help CPAP compliance. Lavender, Mandarin, Chamomile, and Sweet Marjoram aid in relaxation and sleep. Nature's Gift has these and a blend of all four called SleepEase.

I had thoroughly enjoyed reading and sometimes responding to Snoredog's posts almost daily for three years. Snoredog goaded me to do the things that needed to be done to return my good health. He told me truthful things that no doctor had ever even mentioned. I was very appreciative of this and was shocked when the first post came about his death.

During this three years I knew he lived in CA almost 3000 miles from me here in NC. When the post came I searched for the obituary and found instead the obituary of Mike from June. I was really surprised to learn that Snoredog had a brother who had been living two miles from the family farm in NC where I grew up and which is still owned by my brother and I.

thanks kathy for the message and thank you, cristin and ali for letting this community know about your loss...your father helped me more times than i can count, and many of my responses started with, "damn it, snoredog! i know you're right..."

i know that he was very proud of his girls; please know that i am proud to have met him and learned so much from him

To Snoredog's family - Your dad meant a lot to people on this forum. I have only been logging in a month but your dad answered my first post on December 2nd and offered me advice which I took (and made the situation better). That is an amazing legacy to leave. Please accept my sympathy for your family's loss. Pam Bernstein

I haven't checked in for some time and thought I would drop a new year's message when I found this thread. One reason I hadn't stopped by was that I fixed many of the things I had going on with my machine and treatment based on advice from Snoredog. I had also not followed his example and charge to pass on knowledge and empathy (albiet a little hard-edged at times - we probably needed it)

I have printed and saved several Snoredog threads. Often when searching for an answer, I'll find an entry that hits it exactly. More often than not it's by Snoredog. He was a focused student of apnia and related conditions if only to teach and help others. He had a way of explaining complex things that I could understand.

Cristen and Ali: Your Dad touched and probably saved many lives. I know he helped me make mine more worth living. I hope you find some peace in understanding his impact to the world through this thread.

Chris

I am still considered a newbie, but I am deeply saddened by this news. I hadn't been on in a while and it was quit a shock to hear the news. R.I.P snoredog.

Oh, how terrible. I haven't stopped by here in a while (things are going pretty well, CPAP-wise), so I've only just heard the news. How horribly shocking. I am so, so sorry, Snoredog's family, for your loss, and ours.

Wow! I’m shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Snoredog’s passing. Obviously I haven’t checked in here in quite a while. (cpap therapy doing extremely well)

First of all, I’d like to express my heartfelt condolences to Snoredog’s (John's)family, and of course to all of you here at this forum, who like myself, will greatly miss him.

Snoredog sure was a one of a kind guy, who was unparalleled in his helpful contributions for me, and so many others at this board. I am grateful to the many conversations we had via private message, and here on the board. Having taken a moment to reflect on his presence here, I am immediately reminded of all the times I laughed SO DANG HARD! …at his many witty comments, as well his seemingly unending supply of helpful tips for obtaining the best possible cpap therapy.

I’m quite sure this board will continue to be a valuable place for cpap therapy support, but it sure will never be the same for me.
