Post by Guest » Fri Jan 09, 2009 1:11 am

ok..i just got this mask in the mail today!! yay!!! there appears to be leaks with the nostril pads.they don't seem to be able to go inside my nostrils properly..is it allright to have leaks from the nose?? any experience on experimenting with the nasal pillows..should i use lotions or something for a seal?/

is it as effective as a ff?

would love to hear from fellow liberty hybrid users..thanks

The Liberty and the Hybrid are two different masks. The Liberty is from Resmed and the Hybrid is from RespCare. The Hybrid has a chin flap. Which one do you have? I have both but have given up on the Liberty, though I do still use the Hybrid.

Anyway, let us know which one you have and I'm sure folk will offer advice. As far as the nasal pillows go they can be tricky. You shouldn't have any noticeable leaking. You could try a little Lansinoh (Lanolin) around your nostrils. I go for the bull in a China shop approach and tape them down with medical tape.

1. Nasal pillows on either mask should not "go inside your nose". The flange on the end of the pillows should seal on the outside of the nares.
2. There should be no leaking from the nose.
3. Using a viscous product to help seal is neither necessary nor desirable if you have the proper sizes and adjustments. In fact viscous products can make it easier for the pillows to slide around and lose the seal.

Let us know which mask you have - Liberty or Hybrid? https://www.cpap.com/productpage/mirage ... llows.html or https://www.cpap.com/productpage.php?PNum=2204&PAID=301

We can offer more specific advice when we know which mask you have.

I use the Liberty and love it. It comes with three sizes of nasal pillows. Use the largest one that will fit. I found that the smaller the pillow used the more it leaks. Sometimes you have to kind of push the nasal pillow around to get it to seat right. Hope this helps.

I have the liberty as well and really like the fact it's not on the bridge of my nose. At first the medium pads were ok but they started to leak with use after a week or so. I changed to the small ones and they were great for about 3 weeks but they are now refusing to seal. Will go with the advice from Slepy Dragon and try the large ones this weekend and see how they are and failing that the medium ones.
My question is, How close to the nose should the top of the mouth piece be? I find that if it's pressed up close to my nose the nasal pillows distort and pop out but if they are allowed to be fully extended they shift about too easily. Secondly, does the haedgear tend to stretch as I find I have to tighten the top straps up more and more evry few days.

About halfway between the two extremes you describe.

Having the pillows pushed about half way into the frame has worked for me. I still have them popping out occasionally, but I control that with a piece of tape.

Looks like it does. I just threw one away because It had stretched to the point there was nothing left to attach the Velcro to.

How long did it last before you threw it?

About four months. I'm trying to be more careful with this one, now that I know about the stretching.

I have not had a problem with the head gear or clips.

I have broken the swivel piece from the mask to the hose twice in the 4 months I have been using CPAP.

I had to ASK several times to replace the nasal cushions after 3 months .. eventually got them and my leak rate went way down. My insurance will pay for 2 sets of nasal cushions per month so I do not know why the DME will not keep them in stock.

I think I stretch it because I have it so tight. At a pressure of 19 its had to keep from leaking without tightening down the straps a lot.

I've broken the elbow once. Since then I've attached the hose to the top of my PAPcap to keep the pressure of of it. I've also broken the plastic mount point on the mask where the upper strap attaches. I did that by pulling on the mask to adjust it on my face, causing the strap to put a lot of pressure on the mount. Since then I've grabbed the strap instead of the mask to adjust it on my face.

SD,

You need to learn how to use Rested Gal's ladies tights leg fix to stabilize the nasal pillows. It is easier, simpler and more comfortable than tape. See my post, viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36928&p=322402#p322402

Let me know if you try it.

Having tried both I much prefer tape. I find it much more comfortable and more effective. Like all CPAP stuff it's what works for you.

HOw often does everyone replace the face piece around the mouth? I have been using my Liberty mask for about a month and it has started to leak in the middle of the night. It's not a huge leak usually just a small one on the side but it is really annoying at 3am. Does anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks
