Hi everyone. I know this is going to sound very strange but it started about a week ago now and during the day I feel like I am having someone stand on my throat at times. It does not hurt but there is a lot of pressure. My wife think it has to do with my AutoPap. I wake up and I do not feel this way. It starts around noon time. Any ideas? I am going to see my doc on thursday just wondered if my wife could be right? This evening it felt so weird that I had tears in my eyes and was about to go to the ER.
Thanks
HELP!!! Feel Like I am being choked but during the day
Hi Rockside! It sounds like you're really having a rough time. I'm sure it's pretty scary too. This probably won't help you much but when I was pregnant with my 1st child, I couldn't stand to have ANYTHING around my neck...I felt like I was being choked. I learned that this isn't an uncommmon problem during pregnancy. I was told there was a nerve in the neck that becomes hypersensitive during pregnancy. Maybe you have something like that going on. Try to relax...anxiety could be a contributing factor too. If it gets really bad though, don't hesitate to go to the ER...that's what they're there for.
I hope you feel better soon. Let us know what your Dr. says.

Rockside,
I haven't experienced that feeling, nor have I ever read of it in conjunction with cpap therapy, so I'm afraid I'm not of much help. My layman's guess would be if this feeling doesn't start until noon each day, it probably isn't related to your cpap. Could you be experiencing an allergic reaction to something where you are at that time? Has anything changed in your environment? New exposure to chemicals like paint, new carpet, etc? Do you have a new pet? Have you been eating any different foods? Does it feel like your throat is closing up? I've had that feeling before and it was an allergic reaction.
I agree with Amy and think if you are feeling so much pressure that you feel you are choking you should go to the E.R. People who walk into the E.R. with breathing difficulty have top priority. Your appointment isn't until Thursday and if you're having trouble breathing NOW, you shouldn't wait. Does the feeling go away when you're laying down? Does the feeling go away when you've got your mask on and your machine turned on? Do whatever makes you feel better until you are seen by a doctor.
Hang in there! Soon you'll have an answer, and the anxiety of wondering and worrying about it will be behind you!

I'm with neversleeps; sounds like asthma or similar. But it could be something else including certain cardiac problems IIRC.
Next time it happens head direct to the ER. Do not wait for your doctor's appointment. It might be nothing, but there is a chance it could be something serious!

I know what you are talking about. I have been feeling like I am being choked for about 2 months now, especially when I lay down. It is a very uncomfortable feeling. At first I thought it was because I had put on weight from being on so much steroids. I went to the ent and he said that just because I have become fat I should not feel that way, so he decided to check out my thyroid. It wasn't my thyroid. My regular doctor thinks it's from acid reflux and gave me medicine for that and that isn't helping. My pulmonologist and my cardiologist don't know what it is caused from. The only time I don't feel this choking feeling is when I have my cpap on. This is not a symptom of asthma. I have had asthma for years and never had this before. I also have edema in m y body, mainly my feet ankles and legs, even though I am on water pills. I would like to find out what is going on myself, but have had no luck as of yet.
