Rookie heated humidifier questions

Post by catleys » Mon Jan 05, 2009 4:25 pm

I'm in need of a new CPAP and have a couple/few related questions:

I have been using a Sullivan 5, with an Adams Circuit mask and nasal pillows for years. It still works, BUT..........

I have been having seasonal sinus issues that I attribute to the current non-humidifier CPAP that I use.

So I'd like to convert to a CPAP with a heated humidifier in hopes that it helps my seasonal sinus issue.

With a desire to remain an Adams Circuit mask, nasal pillows user, does that restrict which CPAP with a heated humidifier I can get, or is the Adams Circuit mask with pillows generically usable with any CPAP with a heated humidifier?

Any recommendation for a good home machine?

Thanks *MUCH* in advance!!!

If the Sullivan 5 uses standard cpap hoses, you can use a Fisher & Paykel HC 150 stand alone heated humidifier. I much prefer it to my M series integrated HH. It holds plenty of water and you can get as much humidity as you want. I really like mine.

As far as I know, it is. Did you have any inclination as to which machine you were planning on going to?

May depend on your pressure and "comfort" needs (like exhale relief), but the Respironics M Series Auto w/Aflex probably has the most options. The Covidien Sandman Auto is another one that's earned a lot of respect. It's a newer version of the Puritan Bennett PB420E Auto. Both give full detail and have many "bells & whistles". There are other straight-pressure CPAP machines that have full data capabilities, too. Just kinda depends on what direction you want to go.

I saw a list of the more affordable top-sellers on one of the sites. Given that (a) my insurance is NOT picking up the tab, and (b) I've been exisiting fine (except for this seasonal sinus crud) for years with a basic Sullivan 5, I was going to explore the Everest 2 from AEIOMed, The ZZZ-pap from PMI Probasics, the M Series Plus from Respironics, and the IntelliPAP from DeVilbiss. Those 4 seem to selling well, and are quite affordable. That then prompted the question if it was 'mask-dependent'? I don't really need battery power, or travel capabilities per se.

Thanks both of you for taking the time to offer up some of your expertise! It *REALLY* is appreciated.
