O/T - For those of us that are older

Forgetter Be Forgotten

My forgetter's getting better,
But my rememberer is broke.
To you that may seem funny
But, to me, that is no joke.

For when I'm 'here' I'm wondering
If I really should be 'there',
And when I try to think it through,
I haven't got a prayer!

Oft times I walk into a room,
Say 'what am I here for?'
I wrack my brain, but all in vain!
A zero is my score.

At times I put something away
Where it is safe, but, Gee!
The person it is safest from
Is generally, me!

When shopping I may see someone,
Say 'Hi' and have a chat,
Then, when the person walks away
I ask myself, 'who the heck was that?'

Yes, my forgetter's getting better
While my rememberer is broke,
And it's driving me plumb crazy
And that isn't any joke.

CAN YOU RELATE???

Yes I can relate and I am only a couple weeks shy of 47 years old. Didn't use to be that way and I have little hope of it getting any better At at this rate I will be a complete wreck by the time I reach 65.

Does this happen to you over and over: Rent a DVD and ten minutes into the movie you realize you have already seen it? But I still can't remember how it ended.

But this will save me some money. I will just buy three used DVDs of great movies and watch them over and over in rotation.

I know most of this is attributed to aging and the natural degradation of our brains, but how much of this is or could have been caused by years of inadequate oxygenation of our most complex (where we really "exist") organ?

I joined this club quite some time ago. Have to say I'm not as active in my memory loss membership since getting my cpap treatment on an even keel. I'm guessing what I'm left with though is mine to keep.

One of my lapse moments came when I stopped at a local thrift shop and saw a comfy looking pair of black stretch pants, and they were a steal so I bought them and took them home. I decided to try them on before putting them in the laundry, and they were baggy in all the wrong places in an oddly familiar way. I thought, oh well I'll just donate them back and someone else can get them. Then it dawned on me I was that someone else - it was the same pair I had bought then redonated the week before.

More recently, a friend called me and asked if I could give her a ride home from her dialysis treatment at the hospital. So off I went, not wanting to keep her waiting. About a mile from her house I was driving along thinking warmly how glad I was to be able to be there for her during this difficult time. I turned to say something to her and was startled to realize I was on my way to her house without her. Quickly turning around I doubled back to the hospital, and sat in front of the parking garage gate impatiently waiting for it to rise - until oncoming traffic made me realize it was the exit. I moved to the actual enter lane and proceeded to the level of the garage where she would exit by the dialysis unit - or so I thought. Turns out Level 4 A is not the same as Level 4. It was at that point I figured Provigil might not be such a bad idea.

Yep, my membership status is secure.

Kathy

I am a charter member of the Hereafter Club.... I go into a room and think, "What am I here after?"
