Melatonin helps me

Post by wordlife15 » Thu Jan 01, 2009 5:09 pm

Just thought I would share my experiences with CPAP over the last few months. I had been having problems with going for a full night on CPAP for some time. I'd wake up around 3 a.m almost every night and have difficulty falling back to sleep. There were no technical issues with the CPAP, so it appeared to be anxiety related. I tried trazadone for a month but it didn't help at all. I started taking 1 mg melatonin before bed about one week ago. Since then I've slept 6.5-8 h per night without interruption. This may not work for everyone who is having similar problems but I thought it might be something to keep in mind. Peace.

May I ask where you were able to find 1 mg melatonin tablets?

I tried melatonin about 15 yrs ago and had a withdrawal problem around 3:30 every night. I woke up and had trouble getting back to sleep. I can't remember the dosage I was taking...probably around 3mg. I had to order from the States as it's banned here in Canada.

Here in Bryan, Texas Walgreens only had 5mg. Guess it depends on the individual store. I have been splitting the 5mg pills.

I tried melatonin, but I found that after prolonged use, it left me feeling like I hadn't slept very much ... perhaps not enough REM sleep ... I don't know. I quit using it. I don't like doing this, but I have to say, a distraction like the Pur Sleep product had me sleeping throught almost the first time I tried it. And I'm a skeptic ... don't believe in aroma therapy. But, it got me sleeping almost the entire night, the first time I used it.

This is where I order from

I use the 3 mg Sustained Release during the week when I have to get some sleep. I've found that the liquid works well for middle of the night arousals. I Just use 1 dropper instead of the recomended 4, but of course, every one responds differently.

I have been using the 3mg tablets which is what my sleep md recommended. In looking at the shelf in the pharmacy, 3 mg seems popular. It seems to help me fall asleep, but, not stay asleep, I'm up at 5-6 hrs and dozing on and off for another hour or two. By 5:30 or 6 I pull off the mask and fall asleep for another hour or two.
