I also have gained weight since starting CPAP treatment. Since starting treatment I have gained over 20lbs putting me at around 310 lbs at 5'11". I think part of it is due to the fact that my treatment is being effective, and I am actually getting rest for the first time in a while. When I had my sleep study my AHI was at 90, which puts me well into the severe category. I feel better since starting treatment this August. I am glad I did start getting treatment this year being 26 years old; I would hate to think what years of this without treatment could have done to my health. I know at even when I was around 200 lbs I was snoring loudly which makes me suspect that I had OSA for a few years. Since starting treatment my energy has gone up, which has given me more time to pursue my interests. One of those interests is enjoying good food, so I would say that could be part of the weight gain too.

I would be curious to hear from others who have put on weight since starting treatment too.

Everyone's replies have been interesting. I want to point out that I'm not expecting PAP therapy to be a "magic pill" to weight loss.

For the past several years, I've been exhausted most of the time. It was all I could do each morning when I got out of bed to STAY out of bed. The urge to crawl back in bed and stay there all day was almost overwhelming. It's been more than a year since I was able to stick to any type of exercise regimen. Add to that the fact that I would often get very sleepy during the day - even at work. The only way I could keep myself awake was to eat. I've been unable to stick to healthy eating habits. It's my hope that as I get my "sleep debt" paid, I will be less sleepy, making it easier to avoid snacks (especially unhealthy ones). I'm feeling a bit more energetic already and the urge to crawl back in bed every morning is no longer overwhelming.

I realize it will take work on my part, but I hope I will be better equipped to "get the job done"!

If your looking to lose weight it looks like the majority don't have that result! I have also gained weight since CPAP but in fairness I would have gained it whether I started CPAP or not.

I agree, my wallet took a big hit also. I know you can't put a price on health but I just can't see how a mask can cost so much, I can get a cell phone cheaper or even a mp3 player. I would really like to see the prices come down to where people who need the treatment can afford it, well maybe in a perfect world it would happen. I really am thankful it is available.
