I am 30 and was dx with OSA in January. As far back as I can remember, I have had symptoms though. I can remember feeling bad since my first year in college - at 18. So, after many, many years of feeling crappy, I was out on Paxil in 2002. I went for my first sleep study in January of this year, and was psyched to learn that I was not crazy! Someone finally listened to me and sent me for a sleep study. Happy to say that I had significant decreased daytime sleepiness and napping within only 3 days. I started to wean off the Paxin 2 weeks later and was off it within a month!

neurosurgerynp, I know exactly how you feel, I thought I was going crazy to, I was even thinking I had bipolar or some mood disorder with all the mood swings I would have and I wouldn't feel like doing anything, and my day would not start until about 3pm thats when I would finally feel like even taking a shower, I just am completely miserable and I think its worse now that I know there is a reason for it and I cant do anything about it!!! Its been 8 days now since my first sleep study and still have not heard anything back from the doc's yet. It just makes me crazy, they talk about how dangerous sleep apnea is but again I haven't heard anything from my first study except when the tech told me Im not supposed to say anything but she knew I just graduated LPN school so she was like you will definantly be back, she told me I had multiple episodes during my REM sleep and that my 0xygen went down to 75%. That is all I know and when I scheduled my first study they told me if i needed a follow up study I would have to wait until September. Its really depressing cause now that I know there is something out there to make me feel better but I cant get it yet drives me crazy!!!!
O.k, I haven't gotten any reply's, I hope everybody doesn't think im crazy or something, lol, I was just venting, my above post was the first time that I actually was able to vent and what better place to do it, than on a site with thousands of people who are going through the same thing I am. So if anyone has any advice to help me deal with this any better, please feel free to reply, any advice will be greatly appreciated .
Sometimes people don't reply because you've already said it all.
I can sympathize with you; the waiting period after a sleep study when you already have a good indication of the results can be extremely frustrating. I went through it myself just recently, so I can understand.
My best suggestion is that you call your doctor's office and politely pressure them to move. If that doesn't work, show up in person. The squeaky wheel gets the oil; be the squeaky wheel!

I hope you read Rested Gal's comments about treating CSA. Posts from Christinequilts are well worth reading.I have severe central apnea and there just isn't much info about it. All the sleep doctor will say is the machine is treating the OSA and there is nothing he can do about the CSA, other than drugs to keep me awake.
You Dr. CAN do something about treating CSA with Bi-level & back-up rate.

Totally off point, but just had to tell you I love your signature quote.WillSucceed wrote:Buy a new hat, drink a good wine, treat yourself, and someone you love, to a new bauble, live while you are alive... you never know when the mid-town bus is going to have your name written across its front bumper!
Because it's an improvement & excellent refinement of a comment I've used for years about never knowing when you might get run over by a bus, I've plagiarized your saying often. And without attribution!
I used to have a plaque in my office (when I had an office) that said: "The essence of creativity is highly selective Plagiarism". Remember, another good quote is "Imitation is the purest form of flattery"

macoil, how many years do you think you probably have had OSA before you were finally diagnosed? Did a doctor suggest the possibility of sleep apnea, or did you have to broach the subject first?
I hope you don't mind my questions. I don't mean to be nosy...just ever curious about how people get the ball rolling toward treatment.
