new to CPAP

I just spent my first night (Happy New Year!) on CPAP so I'm grateful for any info and tips I can absorb!

Thanks to all for the kind welcome! I'm going through different masks to see what works for me. So far, the Comfort Gel nasal mask seems to be the most comfy. My grandkids say I should wear it instead of the nasal pillow mask because it's "way more scary." LOL!

Welcome....I'm also a newbie...last night was my 3rd night.

This place is great...I've learned so much....the other night I was going through videos and learned some useful tips that weren't covered when I was given the equipment or from reading the supplied manuals/papers.

Guess I'll just keep at the current mask, since its what was prescribed....but do wonder if there wouldn't have been something better than... my doctor prescribed it because it was the same mask used by the sleep lab. But, I think pillows is probably the way to go for me....I'm just have strap issues.

Last night was my first, too. How did you do? I felt as though I couldn't breathe at first, sort of struggling to get air in and out. Then the hose partially disconnected from the base unit, making a terrible sound - fixed that and finally fell asleep after lying awake for about 1.5 hrs. I think I would like cooler air. Hoping tonight is a little easier.

If you like the air cooler, you can turn the humidifier off. The air will still pass over the water and pick up humidity, it just won't be so warm. Some of us prefer the cooler air, some even pour chilled water into their humidifiers. It's all a matter of personal comfort, the choice is ours.

Welcome to the forum, you did great for your first night, if you fell asleep after 1.5 hours your doing better than most of us did on our first night. You didn't say you woke up during the night so that in itself is REAL progress, I've been trying to do that for years.
