DME visit

Post by whatrdreamsmadeof » Wed Dec 31, 2008 9:35 pm

In the past when I have visited my DME for a new mask I've asked why they don't fit me with a mask while a cpap machine is on and set to my prescribed pressure, and I am assured that DMEs do not do that. This usually results in my getting a mask that doesn't seal for me and then I am unable to return it. Today when I visited my DME for a new mask, she asked where my machine was and why I didn't bring it as it only stands to reason that I would need it for a mask fitting. I told her about my experiences there over the past few years and she stated that she was a resp. therapist and the other people that had helped me previously were not and told me that from now on a therapist would be there to help me. I asked her about the activa mask and she told me that by looking at my face that the activa would be much to large for me and suggested the Swift Lite mask but she was out of them. I told her I was disappointed to have come from 2 cities away to be going home without it and at that she said she had the new Swift Lite for Women and left to get it for me. This mask was in fact labeled Swift Lite for Women and had a lite blue printed headgear, more pliable than the dark blue Swift Lite she suggested, it also came with some fuzzy pads to cover the plastic that lays against the face to keep from getting those dreaded facial lines, that was a real added treat, also the nasal pads are double walled so they look as if 2 sets are put one on top of the other, and the nasal cushions fit into the holder which is made of the same pliable material the nasal pads are made of and not the hard plastic. Needless to say the whole experience was very pleasing. Of course I haven't tried it yet, but will tonite, in a few hours it will be New Years Eve here in VA. so I'll let everyone know how it works out, I'm very optimistic and eager to try it!
Happy New Year Everyone!!

Ahhhh! Things sound much more hopeful now for you w/a RT who seem like she might actually know something and actually be interested in helping her patients!!!! Good luck w/the Swift LT for Her. I hope it works well for you. Happy New Year!

Well my first night on the Swift Lite for Her, was a wonderful experience, it stayed on in spite of my stomach sleeping, tossing and turning and burying my face in the pillow as much as you can with a cpap mask. I thing the fuzzy covers for the cheek area could be a little more padded as I did have some strap marks but so far it's real KEEPER, this is mask 16 for me and I really, really like it. They are on the right track for sure the double nasal pads are very stable and the outer one is very soft so it's kind of like the double foam pads on some of the direct seal masks, all in all I can see with some tweaking this could be even better. I'd love to get RG in on this tweaking for all of us gals. Resmed has a good thing going here. Of course that's just MHO.
Happy New Year Everyone, and Happy Birthday to all the January folks.
