Encore Viewer and Vista

Post by stepht » Mon Dec 15, 2008 2:01 pm

I have used Encore Viewer with Windows with no problems. I have a new laptop with Vista. Will Encore Viewer work with Vista? Thanks in advance.

Yup. If you have 32 bit Vista it works great. Won't work with Vista 64.

Thanks, Dale. I have Vista Home Premium Pack 1. Is that 32 or 64 bit?

When I asked at my local Best Buy I was told that Vista Home Premium can run in either. If you have 3mb of ram or less it will run in 32 bit. If you have more the 3mb it will run in 64bit. This is the explaniation I was told.

Not quite true. You can buy Vista in either 32bit or 64bit. If I remember correctly you buy the retail package of Vista Ultimate it comes with both version. Most people get the 32bit version although we are starting to see 64bit come preinstalled on more and more systems.

However you only install one version or the other, it does not automatically switch depend on amount of RAM. However if you want to be able to use more than 3Gigs of RAM you will need the 64bit version.

If you click the start button in the bottom left hand corner of your screen, then Right click Computer, and then click Properties, a screen will come up that will have system information. On that screen will be a section titled System. Under System type: it will say 32-bit Operating System or 64-bit Operating System. Whichever it says is the Operating System you have. Most likely it will be 32-bit since that is the most compatible with the programs and peripherals available today.

They did tell me that Vista Ultimate would let you select but it was the only one that had that option. The other versions had to have more than 3 mb in order for 64 bit to be able to run. I did not mention Vista Ultimate because Steph said he had Home Premium and was told it did not have the option of which you wanted to run.
