How much is too much leakage- Update

Post by dorourke » Thu Dec 11, 2008 2:41 pm

Hi all
This is how the leakage looked last I posted it

Image

found a hole in the mask hose, probably from poor hose management

repaired and installed a hose management system

Here is how it looks now, ignore 1st 15minutes due to playing with the mask

I guess I will try the denture grip strips on the mouth tonight.

Any feedback on the new graph is appreciated.

Pressure -9cm
mask leakage 31.0 +/- 6

best regards

WEll, you can certinaly see that you had hardly any events in hours 1 - 4 to whatever got you leaking again and kicked off thsoe H's & A. Your average leak is a bit high for that pressure and that mask if I am remembering correctly. The VS was during the more stable period. I'd work on cleaning up those leaking peaks after hour 4 to knock out those hypos and apneic event that are sneaking through when your pressure drops due to leak. Once those are under control, you might fine tune your pressure to get the hypos down a bit more if needed.

Personally with the Swifts, I had to work on those little leaks around the pilows or I saw that kind of line. It'll be interesting to see how you do with polident or with taping. Nice improvement from the first one. Glad you found the hole!

On the second plot it looks better. At a pressure of 9, your leak plot should look like hours 0.5 to 4.5 of your sleep session and hours 5.0 to 7.0 look pretty good too ... the zipper pattern hovering about 25 LPM.

You are on the right track ... good work!

I tried the chin strap last night and the results weren't too much better, I slept about 9 hours, woke up at the 3 hr mark to go to the bathroom, didn't put the chin strap back on, was too tired and groggy to get it hooked up.

The chin strap did make me realize that there is some mouth leakage. I could feel the tension on the strap increase when my mouth opened, although I wasn't really aware that is was open.

I must admit that I am starting to feel better.

I will use the denture grip tonight and post the results tomorrow.

Best regards
Thanks for the feedback Silver 123 and Dreamstalker.

dorourke, it's much easier to resume your sleep session if you you stay "geared up" and just slip the hose off the mask for those middle of the night breaks.

Tried the denture grip strips, didn't really seem to work, not strong enough to keep me mouth closed. I did a lot of turning, so I will try it again tonight.

here is the graph.

I ordered a hybrid FF mask, I will get that some time next week.

I don't know about trying taping with a moustache?
